'Love is proximity'
she'd say
nails stroking over
taught skin teasing
waiting
for life to flow back

self-pleased at her faculty
for draining it
she smiled petite kisses
across his chest

'Soul mates --
no such thing'
the student of sociology
rendered the notion
obsolete
'the heart is
merely victim of
geography'

'If I hadn't known you
since I was born --
if we hadn't lived
close enough to
Fall -- we'd never
have loved like
this'
she whispered nose buried
in his neck

Looking back
he thinks about it
and supposes she was
right:
--if there was a kind God
who made
Soul Mates
he certainly would
put them
where they could
find each other

--eh?

yes to some extent....not always so close though....I can vouche for that.lolol....the travel of two to one can be crossed by many miles in sights from within two souls as one.

Hey, Rebel - Perhaps that's why the Internet has prospered, eh?  The end of geography, as we know it.

THanks Mark....

Long John....

Not sure -- perhaps to some... perhaps to others the internet merely exacerbates the problem of geogoraphy

Ah me sweet breath of fresh air, s'good to read you once again.     Agreed, geography can be problematic, BUT is always subject to the system of wants.

Very interesting concept, left to still ponder these words, very nicely written.

hhhhmmm this is interesting....I'll have to think is more another time.....there culd be truth to that... But the world is a VERY small place....no distance too far for soulmates... (if there is such a thing..)

I'm not sure about soul mates but it is a wonderful thought to ponder...I believe that sometimes two people both appreciate and admire the other enough to treat them with respect and consideration...a so called mutual admiration society...perhaps the mysterious soul mate syndrome...James

Thanks all for your many replies and sentiments...

I'm afraid I have you at a dis-advantage though since I know more than I tell in this vignette of my life...

Those who know me best would know that she and I (even though soulmates) would argue points like this ad infinitum..... and I'm merely using her own reasoning to disprove her theorem.... and she would have hated it!  LOL... but she loved me.

Well, the others can ponder on soul-mates and rightly so....as for me, I'd just like to comment on the poem itself....masterful writing. If I could ever think up the words that composed those first two stanzas, I would be a happy man....

Spectacular poem, and very interesting question. I think perhaps God does not handle this part of life, as my soul mate is far away.
Peace
And thanks for reading my poem, although I can't see what you wrote yet..

Bardmaster Balladeer;

Thankyou for the extreme compliment... and let me just say -- if I could relive the words that composed those first two stanzas...

Ladysix -- thankyou -- glad you liked the title -- took longer to write that than the poem itself

English -- thanks!!!

Catalina... thank you also -- and I'm inclined to agree that any God wise enough to make us is also wise enough to stay out of our affairs of the heart... lol...

thanks again

You write from the heart of a soul, once mated, I believe. Beautiful poem, Local Rebel.

Lovely read....

I guess I am lucky, I found my soul mate with 2000 miles between us and fate brought us together and happily married...dreams still come true...ya just gotta believe!

wow intersting poem   I enjoyed this much but I have to say thank goodness for the internet 'cause if it wasn't for that I would have never found the love of my life
