The Summer Locust has started singing here in Pennsylvania and reminded me of this poem. The Announcement There’s something about the song of a locust in the air A non-intrusive gesture that makes us so aware A little August ritual that warns of things to come And reminds us that our splendid summer days are almost done A nostalgic kind of melody the summer locust sings Tolling the end of August with an old familiar ring With a steady and insistant droan he warbles in his ways Announcing to the universe approaching autumn days Our whole perspective changes when the locust sings his tune Like the spinning of the earth and the cycles of the moon We are reminded that the rhythms of the seasons never cease As the locust unreluctantly performs his masterpiece Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 08-22-2000).] |

Thanks, Sudhir,This is one of the first poems I wrote, so there's not any imagery here. But I love the sound of the locust and looked up this poem. Thank you for your comment Liz [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 08-22-2000).] |

Elizabeth, the locust unreluctantly performs his master piece. Loved this bit Be well Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |

Liz - Almost Stephen-Kingish in its prose - and that's a GOOD thing! If this is one of your first, then Lady, you've been missing your calling for way too long. Every poem you write is excellent, Liz. I know that when I open your topic, I am going to sigh just a little for the muse who chose me instead of you, because if it had been the other way around, then I would be the really gifted poet, and you would be the one trying to keep up. Thanks for digging this one up and letting us see just a little deeper into you. |

Hi Liz, How are you I hope doing OK, I keep you in my thoughts and prayers, I loved this little didy you have here, im thinking locust are a form of grasshopper right? We don't or at least around here have many hoppers, now a cricket you will find and they can drive you to drinking if they get in to your house because of thier singing. So much loved this poetry as always, take care. Love, Cerenity "God doesn't have to be reminded that we exist. We have to be reminded that He exist!" (Writer Unknown) |
