The Silent Message

He came home and in quiet reverie
said “do you know how much you mean to me?”

She stood in silence but not withdrawn
and he said “do you know how much I count upon

all the days and all the nights
knowing that you are within my sight?”

In stillness she gazed upon his face
quite torment was taking place

within his features, his eyes showed fear
she took his hand, then stood near…

“dearheart, my love, tell me do
what strange feelings have come to you?”

“I’ve heard,” he whispered, solemnly
“that a family member is so unhappy,

his wife of lean years is leaving him,
and will pick his pockets, at her whim.”

Know how you have those feelings?
That someone will be left reeling?

That you knew a person to be unappealing
and you just had “one of those feelings?”

And while I’m sorry for the family element
I knew it hit my husband hard when he'd meant

to be a kinder and gentle man
as I’ve given him all that I can…

today it came home, straight to his heart,
that tragedy would strike, should we part,

thus, he came home and in quiet reverie
said “do you know how much you mean to me?”

This is so wonderful Karilea, aren't those moments so precious.  So often it's because of something someone else is going through that we realize how lucky we are.  And it's just the icing on the cake to hear them tell us they feel the same way.  Beautiful.  Bonnie

Wonderfully put..and i would hate to think that sometimes situations like that are needed to remind all of us, of how special that person is...we go through life sometimes at such a fast pace that we often ignore the better, subtle pleasures, such a love...thank you for letting me think aloud lol    beautiful is this piece

"my love is my motivation
my love is my inspiration
perception of this poem
is your interpretation"

Thank you Bonnie...indeed, his voice just broke, realizing that there, but for the grace of God...it could be he...

and believe me, sometimes I pray to God more than the next woman...LOL

Sunshine--I like the way you wrote this with the diaglogue..makes the meaning so real and immediate...and your words remind me not to take forgranted or forget to say, love.

Sunshine you're just getting to be quite a poet..lots of different styles and such great content..it is such a pleasure to read your work and this is no exception...and how could you ever say anything bad about a husband like that. Reality came to him and he realized the preciousness of the gift he already had.. excellent writing.

Sunshine - Thank you for reminding me that all the habits I have been developing for these past years may save me yet.

For all you lucky men out there who have the love of a woman - A habit is a habit is a habit - Did you know that opening HER car door EVERY time will not take you even 15 seconds; and opening any other door will not take you even 5 seconds?  Did you know that when you treat that most important person in your life like a queen, she becomes even more beautiful and gracious?  For a big strong man, how hard can it be to hold her chair?  Karilea - you hit a nerve here, did you notice?

Martie, the words are true...

ethome...how can I say such things? Truth can be a harsh mistress and/or master...sometimes our true soulmates remain hidden from what they would really do and say for fear of being hurt...yes, sometimes MY true soulmate is not the best person I know he CAN be, but I SO live for the moments when he shines...because it will mean he's shining on me...

Michael, what can I say, my friend? If I have hit a nerve, you've only shown the truest of you, and Sir, I would be glad to know you...

Good to think about those things every now and than and adjust our personality and actions accordingly..I didn't and I lost someone I couldn't live without...and now I have to live without her...regret is a poor substitute for a lover...James

Julie, if this made you think of your Dad, then call him...who knows? Angels speak in mysterious ways...perhaps I am your conduit today...

Mark, thanks, times two!

Superb Karilea. . .

Indeed, such a gift is the most precious in the world. . .

Just wonderful my friend. . .

it's nice when life's tragic side hits like this, to make us think of what we have and how easily it could be taken away, how hard it COULD be...and puts us in a different frame of mind, a much needed change from the daily rut.

very well expressed Sunshine!
