I've a grand-daughter an Angel so sweet reaching Reaching for four she She always runs Runs for a hug From poppop Her laughing eyes And smile warm my heart So at times I think I think it will melt Memories of My grownup daughter When she tossed blond curls high High in the backyard swing Or curled next to me On the couch To be read to Add to the flood As I drown in these Emotions so human I count blessings untold I've been through Michelle's Door now My tears are not yet dry An angel winsome Smiled at me All I could do was cry For she was like my daughter And like granddaughter too There's no explanation Why some are taken from us To oft 'tis said The words we dread And grief does overcome us It matters not the year they go At seven or thirty-seven They should outlive their parents so Not be the first to go to heaven I remember when I was young Childless still I was Totally insensitive Could not understand the take My neighbor lost his oldest two Drowned in a shallow lake "You've still two left You're not bereft" I thought Without regard How quick we learn We don't forget The lessons taught this way Never shall I see a child I don't begin to pray I pray for parents far and wide And for grandparents too That they see their offspring growing old And that they don't leave too Michelle's Door: http://www.angelfire.com/zine/bereaved/michellepoems.html |

Hello Wilfred... I just wanted to say how beautiful I thought this was, and how poignant, too. I can picture your grand-daughter running to you. There is no loss greater than that of a child before their time. Thank you for sharing this one, my friend...... Today is a gift.... That is why they call it 'the Present'! |

As much as I love my daughter as much as I love my granddaughter as much as I've learned as I've grown there's nothing that hit me and wrenched my heart as reading the loss of Michelle. Thank you |

Dear Bill--I must tell you how this poem has touched me...to think that my daughter and my loss would touch someone's heart in this way, so many years later, moves me greatly. Thank you for posting this very special poem that shows your sweet and sensitive heart! |

So many things touched my heart in this poem Bill...I cannot say exactly how I feel.... but I do appreciate the beauty of these words that express such sadness....I appreciate the heart that you have woven into these lines... I only have the one daughter and the thoughts of anything happening to her scares the very soul of me to absolute silence....this is a wonderful tribute and you are to be commended. |

Wilfred~ I can do little more than thank you for this lovely tribute to Michelle and her mommy .. ~*Martie*~. The photos of Michelle speak volumes and I've visited Michelle's Room several times and always come away with a sob. The loss, no matter how long ago, leaves a void in a mother's heart that time doesn't fill with other things. I want to say how appreciative I am that you shared your feelings with us all. I know how much it touched Martie~ and how much it touched me. from Martie's ...'February 21, Every Year'- across the mountain top as if my ashes are what seed the ground and I can feel the pilgrimage of your feet upon my soul. Your heart beat is me and the ache in womb the full blue veined breast of remembering is where you can find me and I will always be there trust your tears.' Martie~ ... you know I hug you through tears. Love you~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I am very touched by this poem so many emotions expressed thanks for sharing. There is no greater loss than your children. I can remember my mom passing away when she was 46 at a very young age. The grief still is within me.I never got to really know her. My children never had a grandmother. |

Thank you all - for your gracious and warm replies - I know I am humbled by them and I'm sure Martie is grateful too. I will continue to pray for her. - Undoubtedly Michelle is looking down from heaven throwing us that same smile she won us all with. |

Beautiful, poignant and very, very touching. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem, and tribute to Michelle. Thank you too, for including the URL so we could see Martie's darling little girl, and read her wonderful poems. The spiritual wind that holds survivors aloft, plants the seeds from which bloom new hope ... R.J.G. |
