UNACCEPTED GIFTS

You offer me a silver spoon
I turn and leave the room

You give your hand
I pull away

I don’t know why

You offer me a golden wing
I brush the feathers off

You give your lips
I wipe them off

I don’t know why

You offer me a pewter cup
I put it on the floor

You give your heart
I shut the door

I don’t know why

You offer me a ruby heart
I treat it like its steel

You give yourself
I hold you not

I don’t know why

My walls are up
They’re made of glass
I can see you there for me
Unless they’re smashed
Then there’ll just be,
Me, and Me, and Me.

Linda~
Ain't nuthin' gonna send me reaching for Kleenex tonight !

Now cut that out !

'You offer me a golden wing
I brush the feathers off'

This phrase is just delicately delectable ...

Sometimes we just don't know why we do
              what we do, I guess!!
I enjoyed this, and only used a small
                  box of Kleenex!!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Linda you seem to be quite gaurded in this piece.....I guess the perils of being hurt stay around too long, the door stays closed when you really want to open it...wonderful work I really enjoyed reading it.

You've expressed yourself well in this Linda ... it's so easy to keep the walls up when we've been hurt in the past. Nicely penned!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Linda-your words haunt me as I am sure many others as well.  Let the poor guy in and let him give you what YOU deserve.   Way too lonely to be just you and you and you.  Very nicely written.

Linda your words are very powerful and they way you have put them in poetic balance is brillant...excellent read

"my love is my motivation
my love is my inspiration
perception of this poem
is your interpretation"

Such compliments from you all, thank you.
Note the precious metals and gems in contrast with the common and easily broken glass wall.

Smashing slowly to avoid the shards

To add nothing new, I have to say, this is phenomenal, the description of the heart afraid to be unprotected. Take care.
