I suppose everybody knows by now I am not native English. Yes, a foreigner, an alien, a stranger, a Dutchie and a weird one too.
My English is fairly good and I can pretty much understand most of what you are saying. Unless Nan and the Three Musketeers start analyzing in the Workshop.....then I run for my dictionary !
I do have one problem here at Passions though: SLANG !
Sometimes I have no idea what you guys are talking about and, since all this wonderful lingo cannot be found in any of my dictionaries, I'd like to propose the following. (Gee, I'm really getting into proposals these days   )

1  You all stop writing slang. (he he he, that would be the day !)

2  But I am more hoping for some education on this subject.

Whatta ya say ? Wanna help me out here ?

Slang can be confusing as different cultures and age groups have their own slang phrases. What I considered slang as a teenager, is not what is slang today.... do you have an example you'd like to have clarified?

Hmmm, I think the language Toerag uses would be a very good example

Well - I can't decipher half of what the American's write! Even though I come from New Zealand. It's amazing the differences there are even in slang...so don't worry - you're not entirely alone...

Munda, you're asking a lot to have anyone decipher Toerag's speech! LOL, I think you might be hard put to get him to explain it!!!

As far as the rest... there's no possible way you're going to get anyone to stop using slang. It's too ingrained in our respective cultures. And, I might add, not limited to Americans. I have had quite the education learning different words for familiar objects I know under other names. My best suggestion would be to ask... this is a really good forum for that! If you see something that confuses you, post it here and ask. There may very well be many other people just as confused, but not as brave as you are to ask. There's certainly no shame in it... Hey, ask Severn, even I have broken down and asked what something meant before! LOL

Thank you for trying to shine some light in this darkness and thank you Christopher. I think I've tried that option only recently.
I've learned one thing in the meantime. Whenever I stumble over some "strange" words my dictionary doesn't recognize, it helps a lot to read them out loud.   But will somebody please tell me; what on earth means "yanno" ?
