wake up forum...i have a question... I had heard from someone that in English there are only three meaningful words that end with the letters 'shion' - two of them being 'cushion' and 'fashion'. What do ya think, and which is the third one? Thanks friends.... |

Well, I can only come up with one more. But I guess I cheated a little too so I'll hold off with you. It will be interesting to see what you have though Chris. Darn, it's just too easy to cheat on this sort of thing with the internet. But maybe that's not an all bad thing. 'parishion' is the one i think you were looking for. as to the other words - think things like pincushion, disfashion, misfashion, refashion, etc. as i said, arguably - mostly because they ARE meaningful words that end in 'shion.' Arguably, because they contain the words you listed as well, and break out of the 'spirit' of the question. peace, C Life = Rationalization, Irony, Semantics, & Bad Analogies. What more could you ask for? |

Yes Christopher but they not only contain fashion or cushion but are really just modifiers joined to the stem word, a tribute to our language's German heritage. It looks like we were all going for the same third word except I was thinking of parishioner, which is not so obscure although they are still very closely related. Interesting topic. BTW Karilea, wha is hushion? Pete Never express yourself more clearly than you can think - Niels Bohr [This message has been edited by Not A Poet (02-27-2002 02:14 PM).] |

you're right of course, Pete, which is why i went back after i'd first written that to say it was arguable. it depends on how you look on it, and whether you're a stickler for semantics. LOL C life = realizations, ironies, semantics, & bad analogies. |
