If I write a 'period' piece...let's say a Midieval story, should I write with a dialect of that time? If I use proper grammar am I detracting from the 'feel' of the period? |

Yes..for instance in the story I'm working on....it's set in a 'medieval' type time..I used the word impetus in it...and NO dialects...though I think they would use them...but then sometimes that detracts from the story...sigh.........I am just going to write it and then worry about it. |

okies. Why don't you write it without dialects..then write another version with dialects - then compare the two? K |

Or maybe without dialect from that period except now and then... |

I would say that writing in the dialect shouldn't be attempted unless you have a good idea how the dialect was used in that period. . . now, I know that I use some "Thee's" and "thou's" in my own writing sometimes, but if your're going to use the dialect as dialogue, then you need to have an example to work from. . . --------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
