THE MOUNTAIN Here I am miles away from everything So very far from anything From where I stand I look back the path behind me perilous precarious unascertainable Yet, I look out there she is the world surrounding me A million perhaps a billion faces scurrying about grabbing reaching fighting for position on a plane of reality I cannot consciously fathom What gains could possibly motivate them power greed lust what has been purchased material that can be held eternally who will pay the final price I turn from the faces faces of screaming souls of half smirk smiles faces of calculative eyes weighing love by inches and decimal points faces of helpless anger hopeless frustration broken trust forgotten truths faces of those I thought I knew Those who endeavored to climb next me to look upon me to touch me Those whose eyes shined on but never in reflection of mine those who chose to let go now fallen unto the sea of faces below I look up one ledge to go This mountain this conglomeration of jagged stone of unforgiving self now nearly beneath me One ledge between me and freedom One ledge between me and truth Blood slickened palms calloused fingers I grasp her Every ounce of endurance utilized I pull myself up but I can't I dangle in mid air strength reeling fingers slipping Nails digging in deep Man verses mountain I scream of agony of pain I scream of forever One ledge to kill me to heal me to save me from the faces below One The sun shines on my face gentle winds breathe Finally I rest The struggle over I have taken her She is mine Michael Anderson It's true, Love lasts forever Only her memory slips away. Michael, I feel honored that I inspired a masterpiece of this caliber, This was just intense, you made me feel the fear of you slipping off that mountain, and then the joy of capturing it. One day your name will grace the bookstores. |

So utterly intense! Well done - good to see you keep venturing into freeverse too - it suits you! 'Writing sharpens life; life enriches writing' Sylvia Plath |

Michael, your talent shines brightly even in your dark moments. It wasn't wide but it sure was deep. Keep writing as fast as you can, just don't let yourself go over the edge. Parker... though every day has a setting sun, every night a billion more will come. |

Michael~ Tumultuous trials are challenging. You've met the challenge. Be proud of yourself for the 'climb'. Your flag is planted firmly at the top of the mountain. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Lost Dreamer, thanks and I hope you're right about the bookstores. Janet Marie, I am merely mortal, I assure you...LOL Thanks for the smile... I sure needed one. Quite a compliment there WhtDove - I still feel I need a few pointers before I submit anything - especially in the freeverse dept. Severn, you don't know how hard it was to write without using punctuation - well, maybe you do cause you have seen me struggle to do it in the past..LOL Thanks for all you words of guidance, you have been a tremenous help to me. PdV, alright already...I promise I'll submit one soon. Haleyja, I went over that edge a long time ago...LOL devina, glad I stole your breath for a change...it's usually the other way around. Marge, you know the best part about overcoming adversity of any kind is the quiet confidence that follows. Just to know you never gave up, it's an irreplaceable feeling. Besides, look at the friends I've found waiting for me at the top - I couldn't let all of them down, could I? Denise, thank you. Michael |

Very intense Michael....with the amount of friends you have here, you'll never have to climb alone though |

"One ledge to kill me to heal me to save me from the faces below" Feels as if you've been looking into my soul. Especially these lines. Excellent poem Micheal ! [This message has been edited by Munda (edited 02-25-2000).] |

You've risen to breathtaking poetic altitude...stand tall, Michael, and fill your lungs with sweet victory's fragrance. This is a superb piece of poetry. Claire |
