Death Of A Poet “Why are you writing? You’re wasting your time, You’ve no sense of rhythm, You’ve no sense of rhyme.” “You’re misleading yourself, For poetry’s an art. You write much too simple, You write from your heart.” “People won’t read it, They’ll just tune away. Your words are too boring, You’ve nothing to say.” “Give up your dream, No writer you’ll be. Relax and admit it, Why can’t you see?” So with sad heart, She put down her pen; Gave up on her writing All her dreams and then, She built up some walls Behind which to hide; Wrote her feelings no longer; And inside she died. The death of a poet, Over which no one grieved, She would have kept writing, Had someone believed. Have you ever noticed That the words... "Goodbye" "I'm sorry" "I love you" Are so easy to pronounce ...Yet so hard to say ~Javan |

WoW Ruth, this is saddening. It is amazing how what people can say, can kill us inside and eventually out. All it takes is one person to believe, God I know that from experience. But then again I am also stubborn so when my poetry always got put down I just tried harder and harder until I came to the poetry point I am at now LoL (which still isnt good, but oh well). This poem is so sad, but thank you for reposting! Just be glad I'm not your child! *evil grin* |

*wipes away a tear* i know far too many people that have followed this exact path... this is so very saddening and yet so realistic... i hope that i can do my part in helping to encourage budding poets... hoot_owl: i absolutely love the final stanza... very powerful... sincerely, jerome the mysterious priest A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

What is good poetry? If just one person was moved, or shed a tear, or smiled at your verse, it is good poetry, and worthwhile. Sometimes I can't relate to the most noted of poets. It's sad to think that a poet would stop writing because of what somebody said. I have many poems that I have never shared with anybody. They are hidden in the depths of my hard drive. They were still worth writing, though they will never be seen. This poem saddened my heart Though very beautifully written, as always Liz |

I read I see I wonder is this true I hope the pen will never run out of blue In case you think your poems not worth the read My friend I tell you one of these: I'm a simple man by heart I love to live and do my art For me you are a poet of words so deep Now get back to writing before i do here weep I cherish every line For me those lines are THE devine Poets like you have fromed this place It's you that I embrace The words may seem hollow that I inked But It is my heart to you it linked So hear my words so simple as can be We all can never be without thee I case I did miss understud the posting of this poem Forgive my words for I shall roam On my knees to let you feel This poem sounded pretty real You painted well so there you go Simple words , effective show (show as in luck of a better simple word) Hugs and Love The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

Never give up your dream, the moral of the story. Anyone who truly loves you loves your dreams as well, and helps you make them come true. hoot, your usual good work. I visited your website and signed your guestbook. DH |

The blindness of that man still to this day in thought amazes me. But then consider the source. Your the greatest Ruth dear.... There are two kinds of pedestrians...the quick and the dead. Drive it like you stole it. |

It was a great day when you picked that pen back up my dear friend! For you have touched so many with your words! This is very sad, but shows what one voice, one person, can do to someone else! I'm so glad you stopped listening to that! GREAT BIG HUGS!! <*\\\>< When you can't make up your mind Which way is right for you, Stop and softly ask yourself, What Would Jesus Do? |

Thanks everyone, this is an older poem of mine and actually is based on fact. I'm glad I had the courage to pick that pen back up. Let this serve as a reminder to everyone to choose our words a bit more wisely in regards to others, sometimes what we say can make or break the person |

It`s sad to think that word`s alone can break another`s Spirit. But what`s worse is to think that someone would try and break another`s Spirit. Im guilty of being on both ends. I agree that we (pointing finger at self) need to be careful with our words. Nice job Today is the first day of the rest of your life. |

Thanks for posting this one. I think every poet has these same thoughts. I know I do. But, I no way want to die inside. Thank God for the internet and this forum. Now no poet ever has to die. |

Ruth- Well, it's a darned good thing for us that you didn't listen to that scalawag ! And when he comes begging ... DON'T AUTOGRAPH HIS COPY ! A point well-made in regards to the words we lay on another's heart. Why, I've pulled poems out of people who were sure they didn't have one in themselves. It took one friend of mine eleven years to come up with the poem I told her she owed me. Now no one can stop the flow of her ink. In EVERY person there is a poem, waiting to be penned. Thanks for this poem, Ruth. What an inspiration. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

This struck close to home. I have felt this way, and it is a terrible feeling. Believing in yourself is the only way to go sometimes. Joy |

Ruth, wonderful poem. I think sometimes a little adversity can make us better then we were. You, in my mind, are marvelous! |
