(I know this poem is sad and I certainly hope it does not offend anyone, that is not my intentions...but when I think of the innocent children, born into a life unlike any we will ever know, it breaks my heart. The statistics are overwhelming and many of these children never live to be adults. So, as I step off my soap box, I ask you to read this, then please offer up a prayer for their/our future...thanks ) Ghetto Child Hush little baby Please don’t you cry Your father’s been shot I think he will die The rent is not paid You’ll soon be evicted Your mother’s on crack And you are addicted Hush little baby Don’t say a word The neighbors are fighting Your cries won’t be heard Your brother sells drugs Outside on the street To make some more money So your family can eat Hush little baby Please don’t you cry Gun shots and sirens Your sad lullaby Your clothes are all dirty Your blankets are torn You were cursed from the start To the ghetto were born Have you ever noticed That the words... "Goodbye" "I'm sorry" "I love you" Are so easy to pronounce ...Yet so hard to say ~Javan |

Growing up in a bad part of a big city,I have seen way to much of this sadness. You have really captured another side of life (with this writing) that many don`t see and or don`t want to see. My prayer`s are always with our children. Thank`s for sharing this Hoot.< !signature--> Today is the first day of the rest of my life. And the begining of a new one. A sad story to be sure, and well written in your usual excellent style. Ruth, you have a heart full of love! Danny |

This is touching, Ruth, your display of where prayers should certainly be. Many who have not been subjected to those circumstances that many of today's children are being raised in fail to see the necessity of worldwide prayer for such a need. This poem is reality. And your request for prayers is honorable. |

Beautiful poetry about the misfortunes in our society. A lovely innocent child who unfortunately is born into a family with every imaginable problem. James |

Wow...extremely powerful images portrayed here, Ruth. It's hard to fathom being born into such circumstance...how different a person I might be. Great poem, definately an eye opener. Michael |

Great poem, Ruth! Some people are so busy looking down their noses at those in the ghetto, they don't stop to think about those who have no choice. |

Very sad truth you speak of Hoot ... our local schools here have a program that feeds a good breakfast to any children who come to school hungry ... they feed quite a few ... small gesture ... and they need so much more Rex |

Ruth, my heart breaks for all the children born into this kind of life. It is so hard to climb out of the hole that living like this puts you in. and yet most of us go on with our lives...thanks for reminding me. You're the best! |

ITS SO TOUCHING...ITS AMAZING HOW WE TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED ..JUST COS WE ARE LITTLE BIT MORE PRIVELAGE... WHEN EVER I SEE A CHILD LIKE THAT..MY HEART REACHES OUT TO THEM...BUT WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE THIS TERRIBLE WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN... LOTS OF PEOPLE SAY THAT CHILD WILL BE WASTED JUST LIKE HIS FAMILY...BUT CAN HE HELP IT... HE IS ONLY CUSTOMED TO WHAT HE KNOWS,AND WHAT SURROUND HIM... EXCELLENT POEM |
