Here's a poem I wrote a while back, after my girlfriend of two years broke up with me. This was writing as catharsis: a lot of angry poems would come out later (and as you can see in -rain stones-, sometimes still do) but at this moment, I was projecting myself into the future, onto some ideal love someday. Haven't found her yet, but, then again, I'm not looking (for some reason). Anyway, here ya go. Mike -a kiss (tears and sadness optional)- Shhh. Hear that? That's my heart. A gentle muscle pumping blood around my body. I like it when we hold hands like this, So the sun comes up between the web of the world's fingers. I like starting each day with a new kiss, a new wish. Mmm...your breath is so soft, sipping coffee smoking cigarettes. I hold a book of poetry and read you a passage about love. Poets will never understand how boring a subject that is. I'll settle for the happiness and closeness of your touch. The watchwords and hidden messages in your lips, The way your eyes act like gentle diamonds reflecting the floating light. I'll sit out here with you all day, until god closes one eye and opens the other, Turns his head to watch us together. I'll fall asleep with you asleep against me, Your hair brushing my lips -- each strand a touch in the night. Sleep well, my other. Sleep well and on into the day. I whisper: I will tell you everything you'll ever need with my kiss. Brush the sunlight out of your hair, sink against me, And let smoke waver from your lips. You nod your head and close your eyes. For now, we are here. |

This is full of great images Mike...I think you stopped my heart a couple of times along the way...I LOVE THIS!!! I'd surely swoon if a man gave me a poem as beautiful as this!!!! And don't worry about finding the right one...with passion such as lovely as you've written here, they're sure to be running!!!! Open arms can be the most fragile in the world... |

Mike~ Wow ! I like. 'I'll sit out here with you all day, until god closes one eye and opens the other' What an image that is. By the way ... when you aren't looking, is just when love will find you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

spiked, Glad you enjoyed it. The poem is both sweet and sour in my mind (more sweet, though). CMGrimm, But words, no matter how sweet, only get you so far, and I'm sure yr wife realizes that. Thanks for reading. devina, Thanks for feelin' it. Believe me, no one's running. Corazon, Exactly; if I'm not careful with what poems I post, I'm going to blow people's heads up. Severn, Merci. Alias, Do you float away like "gentle diamonds reflecting floating light," or however I worded it? Marge, Thanks for reading, and liking! And c'mon, no hoary old chestnuts allowed for advice. Maybe it's true for almost everybody. 2nd N.C., (rnc?) There's some poems I will never post, though. In fact, those ones are destroyed. Thanks for reading. Mike |

Nah, be glad of how you write. I know I like it anyway. How it's simple, yet hides very complex feelings underneath. At least that's what I get out of your writing. I, on the other hand, sometimes get even more complex in my writing than my feelings. Oh well, it makes sense to me. Mike |
