Tom Landry Always Played On God's Team The field of dreams within his play always included God as the full-back. Tom Landry now coaching with the greatest Coach of all. The greatest coach the Dallas Cowboys ever had has gone to meet the team of God's angels for the best Super Bowl ever. This man was a role-model to all of the young men he ever coached and will be long remembered for his fairness, his Christianity and his loving approach to sports and the life of being a gentle man. It is with a loving heart that I remember the influence Tom Landry had on my son, David. In a time when some youths were epitomizing the rough, tough men of the sports arena, Tom Landry stood head and shoulders above the rest in the mind and heart of a boy who had admired him for years. Among my son's greatest treasures, a letter written to him by Tom Landry on the occasion of his graduation with Summa Cum Laude honors. This gentle man took time to write, congratulating my son for his accomplishments. He will always be my 'hero' too. Tom Landry September 11, 1924 - February 12, 2000 ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

This is a lovely tribute, Marge... I grew up cheering for his Cowboys... and thought he showed such class even under adversity. |

This is beautiful Marge. I wasn't even aware Tom had passed away until I read your tribute. I gonna print this up and send a copy to my son Gabriel in California who is the biggesst sport nut in the world and spends his life trying to have his picture taken with sports legends. I know he has one with Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretsky, Steve Garvey, he has so many, maybe even one with Tom. I'll have to ask him. James |

James- Thank you. Tom Landry was battling leukemia for some time now. He died yesterday with his family with him. He sure is symbolic as a true Christian gentleman as well as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys for 29 wonderful years. If you'll e-mail me at [email protected] I'll send you the file containing the poem as it prints out better than the version on passions. I hope Gabriel will enjoy it. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Poet and Suthern- Don't know what happened to the replies I posted for you ... so will try again. And this darned thing also stopped sending me e-mail notifications AGAIN. Poet- Yes, we are losing some real great men who have left wonderful legacy's behind. Suthern- Like you, I always admired Tom Landry's coaching abilities. My son, David and I 'grew' up cheering them on. My son wrote the following e-mail to me tonight after I sent him the tribute I had done- Mom, Thanks for the message. I looked at that letter today. What a fond memory. How excited did I get that day? Fourteen years later and you're giving me teary eyes. Cut it out. Just kidding. Did that letter come before or after the Staubach letter? Thanks for always fueling my passions. Love Ya, David *His thoughts made it all worthwhile. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Denise- Glad to see you back, gal. Now I'm having problems. My e-mail notifications are not getting through to me. It's double-posting my stuff, my preview button isn't working and when I try to submit ... it's doing 'that thing' again. I'm going to try cleaning out the cookie jar and coming back in fresh. Oh, well .... HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY. Great to see your smiling face here among us. Love you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
