The Quest We start out learning how to fly With destination marked A star adrift in heaven's sky A journey quick embarked In dare addressed the skyward quest So distant from a feathered nest With unsure glide and thoughts afar Attempt untested wing Newborn feathers eye the star Of youths envisioning But awkward plume quickly consume A journey long forecast in doom And so we fall upon on floor Unscathed and still with pride With rumpled feather try once more To reach the dream inside With firmer plume we then resume Our quest to reach a closer moon But still the moon is out of reach We land upon the ground The lessons that our failures teach Is knowledge cruely found We would be proud to be enshroud In freeflight through a misty cloud It seems no one can true forwarn What fate may come our way A sudden summer thunderstorm Squelches sun filled days In midst of steer towards dreams sincere We’re brought down by a lightening spear Then with a much more stable quill Embark on feathery flight Envisoning elated thrill To reach the treetop’s height With all the vim we’ve left within We finally reach the lowest limb And so it goes, the course of life To land on dreams too high Without the weathered daily strife We’d never learn to fly To achieve success it’s always best To make a star the final quest We reach the tree top limb by limb Then fly the cloudy dew A little further gliding through The sky’s eternal blue But conquering the stars on high At times we’re just too old to fly Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 04-09-2000).] |

You continue to amaze, Ms. Santos. This is terrific. From one who is too old to fly I shall continue to follow my grandma's advice....if you can't be a tree...be a bush. ![]() |
