This poem is inspired by a loved one's struggle with the sudden illness and death of their Mother... In the dusk I say goodbye, knowing it is forever. How I hate the forced silence, the tangled darkness of your end. Are there any worthy words to utter, as you gaze away from your pain? The only words come in images black and white memories, melting too fast. In your far-off trance I see you, my friend, my supporter, my Mom. You still play peekaboo with my soul, even as you leave me, grown now, to thrive. Into nothing I can hear your laugh. In a time that seems like yesterday you take the blanket from my tiny head, "peekaboo" you say with joy. "Goodnight Mommy", I whisper back Grant that I may not judge my niegbor until I have walked a mile in his moccasians Native American prayer |

Christie~ This is lovely and can be taken to heart by many of us who still play 'peekaboo' with the memories of our mothers. Thank you for this touching piece that tugs at my memory's heartstrings. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
