What Your Prayers Have Done.....An Update on "Pooh" |

I would GREATLY appreciate any suggestions on making this better and a title. It is a tribute to a very sweet young man in my life "Pooh"....Shane is my very dear friends 16 year old son, he and I have formed a bond that hold me like a vice. Shane was rushed this evening back to the university hospital. He is awaiting his second liver transplant, he has the same disease that recently took Walter Payton's life. I have one other small request for the family of Passions.....no matter what belief you have or what God you pray to....please say one tonight for my "Pooh". Thank you all. Oh No....Please not my sweet "Pooh" Sirens race you to E.R. I beg....plead...scream...pray..... .why you? You're so weak...... my fading star Just sixteen...so very young But those eyes have seen so much To Deaths door once....But life clung When will it all be to much? Few have the GIFT of one chance Now...How dare we ask for two? Up to the heavens I glance I weep...as my arms hold you. Mental photos...closed eyes....drift....... Happy face, eyes bright and clear. All that gone...You've had one GIFT One precious chance.....just last year. The rejection has begun and now the painful wait. As I watch the rising sun Please..... don't let the GIFT come late An inner battle rages strong To recieve....one must pass on This all seems so very wrong Please "Pooh".....I pray....just hang on. It's so hard to believe now To think........ the unthinkable But if you'll just please allow Please remain.........unsinkable As I hold "pooh"'s yellow hand I hear the nurse's words come From what seems a distant land "They have said No"........I go numb. butterfly, oh girl, this touched me so deeply! this kinda emotion is what true poetry is all about! as for what i would change about this to make it better...absolutely nothing. it comes from the heart, so therefore is already perfect as is...as for a title, perhaps something with "pooh" in it...like pooh don't go. help me out with this one guys. butterfly, i will definitely say a prayer for shane this evening before i go to bed. also my mom is in heaven, and she was a divine lady. shane is ok, she's watching him. i hope that gives u a slight bit of comfort. take care, and god bless. amy ~Live today as though it were your last but prepare for tomorrow as though it were here~ |

Your poem speaks from the heart and the emotion behind it is very apparent and true. Nothing more need be said there. I will definately keep you and him in my prayers tonight. Michael |

You are all so kind, and you remind me why I'm so comfortable here. Thank you for all of your prayers and I'm glad you though it was "enough"....it's hard to read and judge when you have so many tears in your eyes you can't see straight....I'm sure you know how that is. Thank you again....straight from my heart. |

Butterfly...you are so special...and so loving...the poem is of your heart, change nothing...you know, you and he are in my thoughts and prayers...and heart...it goes unsaid... love and prayers my sweet friend, jm Prayers for Pooh if i had 3 wishes... i'd give them all to you if i knew the answers or reasons i'd know just what to say and do sometimes things are decided and we beg to ask the reasons why sometimes we feel so helpless all we can do is cry i wish i knew the sercets i wish i could take this pain away i know we aren't suppose to question fate so instead of asking why, i'll pray. Prayers of strength and healing, Prayers of a miracle true... Prayers of love and patience Prayers for you, sweet Pooh. jm |

Dont know how you all feel - but can't we have a whip round and send this young man some cash, or gifts (i'll say a prayer anyway). COUNT ME IN! 10 dollas - to address if thats possible! What do you say? Give with your hearts, collectively we can give lots, individually we can give hope! -Rich- |

Your poem pulls such heavy memory from my heart, for times when we see just how fragile life is...Your poem and thoughts are wonderfully powerful as is your love. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your Pooh. |

You are all so wonderful....J.M. your poem brought tears to my eyes...of course they haven't been without them since I got the call last night....Marge I looked EVERYWHERE I could think of last night to find a Pooh picture...thanks for being there. Rich you are wonderful and with such a huge heart, if wasn't for people like you I'm not sure where Shane and his mom would be right now. I wanted to share a little bit more of Shane's story with you...at 6 Shane was diagnosed with Chrone's Disease, usually (not always)this attacks the bowels but in Shanes case it attacked his Liver. Shane was near Death on his 15th birthday when he received his first liver transplant, he was a new kid....smiles and full of life. The "Make a Wish Foundation" gave him a 4-wheeler and he found the speed and freedom he hadn't known since he was very young. Then slowly he began to have set backs....on his 16th birthday they diagnosed him with Chirrohsis of the Liver, He is on a long waiting list for a second liver, and the liver is like the heart....there is no artificial replacement or back up once it stops. All we can do is wait and pray, last night he became very ill and was taken to E.R. he has an infection in his abdomen that is spreading. Even if a donor is found the sicker gets the less likely he'll be chosen to receive it (the sickest with the best odds of survival are at the top of the list). When you are placed on a transplant list there are certain critera that match you with a donor...A young man in the hospital with Shane is awaiting the exact "same" liver, he is ahead of Shane on the list, I shudder to think how Shane's mother will react when the first GIFT comes through...can you imagine? I have so much respect for his mother...she is a hardworking mom....raising two teenagers, she has only been able to work here and there... 3 days in the last 8 wks due to Shane being in and out of the hospital...She has almost lost the material things due to this...bill collectors only wait so long. I'm trying to gather some ideas for a fund raiser...the school has done one for him that was last year following the first transplant, if you have any ideas please e-mail me. Shane's family lives 3 hours from the University...They thought of moving but Shane wants the quality of life that comes from being around friends and family....His mom doesn't want to take that from him too. I just wanted to share a piece of my Pooh with you as you share your prayers with him. Thank you all so much!! [This message has been edited by Butterflies_dont_cry (edited 04-01-2000).] |

Butterfly, we must trust that God hears our prayers for strength, understanding and peace, and that He is holding your Pooh in His loving embrace. You are such a special friend to this young man and his family, one can clearly see that right away. Thank you for allowing us to know about him. I would love to see his website and send him a note, if you can post or send the URL. My e'mail address is [email protected] ~ praying for you "all" ~ ~ Claire |

You all continue to amaze me...thank you all so much. You have given me hope in the human soul once again. I will be going to Ann Arbor, the University Hospital to see Shane tomorrow and to give his mom some moral support...and a great big hug. I should have an update by tomorrow evening. Here is Shane's web page: http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Desert/4303/ keep in mind while looking at it that Shane doesn't discuss his illness, he doesn't want pity...only to be treated and to BE like everyother 16 year old living healthy today. Feel free to send some Well Wishes to his e-mail address, if his mailbox is full and not accepting messages...which happens alot because he isn't home to "clean it out" you may send them to my e-mail and I'll be sure to forward or print them up for him...as I am planning to do with all of your posts so far I can't wait to bring a little hope and a lot of love to show his mother...Monika will be so touched by all of you. **Angel Wing Hugs** to the best family ever!!! Hold me for yesterday Kiss me for tomorrow But love me for today. |

UPDATE I saw Shane today I printed off the poems (Mine and the one Janet posted, along with the 17 pages of posts from all of you wonderful people) and gave them to Monika today. As you can imagine her faith has been tested in all of this and to tell you the truth when I see what she goes to I imagine mine would be hard pressed as well. She weeped through the poems and the posts as we drove to the Hospital together and then she smiled....she said with all of your prayers she had hope and she knew that whatever the doctor's told her today she knew she could handle, she wanted me to be sure to let you all know that and also wanted to thank all of you...so Thank you Shane had an MRI done on his hip today which was negative...praise God!! they feared that the bone was dying due to lack of blood(along with several other "could be's) which could have meant amputation...a surgery he may not have been able to handle. They are performing another MRI tonight (8:15) on his spine to see if there are pinched nerves. They also have found staph infection in some of the cultures of his blood and the antibiotics are working...Praise God. Shane's sister said that he is looking and acting better and didn't need as much pain medication today...Praise God. Your prayers are helping please keep them up!!!! As long as you want to know I'll keep you updated We didn't show Shane the poem or the posts due to the sadness of the poem...perhaps when he comes home....this could still be a week or more. Thank you all for your prayers and for giving Monika the ray of hope she needed today....she hasn't looked that "light" in a long time.. You are all amazing!!!!!! **Angel Wing Hugs** One and All!!!!! |
