Sage and Simmering Celery

The house quiets itself,
slowly.

I kiss your head
with tender traces,
nesting my face
against you
as your sleeping body
warms my own.
Sage and simmering celery...
Thanksgiving dinner
and your green eyes, now closed
to mine.

And
in the quiet house,
as you dream
and I kiss you,
all I can
think of
is
how will I
breathe
when
you are
gone?

Dear LadyClaire

Claire~

Soft and tender with memory.
This one breathes from your heart.
You have the soul of a truly passionate poet.
Beauty in every sigh.

Do you care what is thought by others about you
If this day is all that is promised to you
Do you live for the present, the future the past...

Gee I think my wife reflects more towards burger and fries when she thinks of me
Some how it's not quite as poetic as you describe ...

Rex, thank you for reading. I'll have to work on a "burgers and fries" poem for you.

You are able to infuse such feeling in your poetry, with so few words you say so much,  you are truly talented in your ability to write such beautiful verse.
