The Ice Queen Dances < !signature-->The ice queen dances tonight, alone, while men watch on to see her perform her show. Eyes of blue look right through them as she struts her stuff for all to see. Twirling, she moves, a picture of beauty and grace. The world becomes her stage, but her star burned out long ago. The ice queen dances tonight, the coldness in her heart put there by those who now wish only to possess her. Her glass slippers fail to carry the weight she has come to bare and they shatter like the illusions she once had. Frozen smile upon her face, she twists the truth to fit her expectations, lying only to herself. The ice queen dances tonight, alone, as you watch on. She performs for you. Cold, she has become. Watch how she moves ...just don’t touch or you'll get burned. There are only two ages of people...living and dead and you all look about the right age to me ![]() [This message has been edited by hoot_owl_rn (edited 03-24-2000).] |

this poem doesnt make me feel cold..it makes me feel the sad disillusionment of a women trapped into doing something....something that obviously she doesnt really enjoy..but for whatever reasons she feels she has to do she twists the truth to fit her expectations, lying only to herself. something that l guess she tries to justify to herself...and probably deep down realizes the lies..and her ice cold outer is her way of dealing with it..of maintaining herself "What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies." -Aristotle |

Wonderful, Ruth. It is difficult for me to respond...having some experience with ICE. I think I could cope better if ICE were cold (or hot). No, I have seen an ICE queen, and her eyes speak the droning monotone of indiference. Yes, you poem evoked a VERY strong emotional response in me......well done! INclan |

I just had to read your poem when I came across the title! .... Whenever my friend and I go out dancing- she refers to me as the "Ice Princess".... I was not disappointed by your spectacular poem- and felt as though I was on the dance floor once again! I can't wait to read more of your work! |

I just want to say thanks to everyone for reading and replying. Although it can be seen as an exotic dancer it is really about a woman scorned time and time again to the point where she has given up on love. The coldness that men shun was put there by the very same. She lies to herself when she thinks she needs no one. She dances (lives life) with no zest. |

sooo fine...I can really relate, and the rhythm was smooth and sinuous. Similar to Stevie Smith's not waving but drowning. Where do you get your inspiration? Peace. From a brother to a sister. |

(In responce to Ice Queen Dancer) They call me unfeeling, They call me 'cold fish'. They say 'she is heartless, And call me a b****. They say I feel nothing, I'm dead to the world. If I'm so dead I wonder, Why does it hurt. (I know the Ice Queen facade only too well.. very well written) |

Whew! Almost missed this one. It is superb writing, Ruth. I knew immediately it wasn't about dancing, of course. It is a very powerful poem. So why didn't you tell me you know my ex-wife? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

This is quite an effective extended metaphor here... Of course, you know that I know - that the Ice Queen has a very warm inner heart.. ![]() [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 03-26-2000).] |

Wow... this is a great poem, and so true, for preformers onstage and in life. Keep up the good work! "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde |
