THE STRAWBERRY FIELDS AT THE END OF PENNY LANE

Our lives have been so Helter Skelter and sometimes downright strange
So come with me on an oddessey that ends up on Penny Lane
We had to walk because I decided the you couldn't Drive My Car
And you had no Ticket To Ride, I guess that's just how you are.

Remember when you asked me Oh Love Me Do, I said I would even When I'm 64
Little did I know of what had actually happened just The Night Before.
Then a few days later you had told me that you'd fallen for Eleanor Rigby
Oh! Darlin I cried Don't Let Me Down! You said to just Let It Be.

I ran away to think and ponder this terribly dreadful news.
It had been a Good Day Sunshine till ol' Ellie had to intrude
I plotted her demise involving Maxwell's Silver Hammer
I headed over to her house, turned the corner and I Saw Her Standing There

She was talking with that guy Rocky Raccoon parked in his Magic Bus
She was acting like Lady Madonna all prim, and proper and trussed.
Rocky pulled away with a wave, blew a kiss, and yelled Happy B-Day!
That Yellow Submarine he painted was all I saw when he drove away.

It's her Birthday, I thought. What an incredibly horrible day to die!
So I slithered home with Max's hammer and a rueful sigh.
Later I  went to see Dear Prudence, you know up on Abbey Road.
She looked really tired, like she'd been carrying a heavy load.

But when I asked her, she said it had just been a Hard Day's Night
I commiserated with her on her weary tiring plight.
She asked what it was I needed and I simply stated Help!
She listened carefully to all, and this advice she dealt.

Life is a Long and Winding Road and Yesterday is gone.
Don't worry about tomorrow. That's another song.
All You Need Is Love to get you through today.
Take some time to listen, time to laugh, and time to pray.

Things will Come Together in the way they truly should
But don't you go and force it Dearie, it'll turn out for the good.
I went home and showered and watched the moonlight glow.
All of a sudden there stood Ellie. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window!

I guess ol' Max had told her of my horrible, wretched plan
To hammer in her skull so I could regain my man
She was on a rant about how she never really wanted you
All you ever talked about was me! ( What a silly fool)

Michelle this And I Love Her that. It just didn't seem to be her style.
She was foamin' and a-spittin'. She was really upset and riled.
She left the way she came and landed face-first on the porch.
Made me stop and wonder why she didn't ask directions to the door.

She sure showed  her true colors when she kicked you with her heels.
And now here we are a-walkin to those endless Strawberry Fields
And now we're back together and I Wanna Hold Your Hand
And give you All My Lovin'. By you I want to stand.

Do You Want To Know A Secret? No, it's not in code.
Ever have a fantasy? Why Don't We Do It In The Road.

WC,

Your poem is truly Something; a Glass Onion of worthwhile songs wrapped around with humor and angst. You do the Fab Four proud, here and Across the Universe.

I must admit it was the title that drew me to your poem, being a bit of a Beatles fan, and I wasn't disappointed

what a phenomenal effort!!
So much time must have gone into this..it leaves me lost for words

This was a fantastic effort.  The Beatles were hot when I was a young guy and I loved them.  Thanks for the ride down memory lane.
Great work here.
