“Growing Up? Or Growing Old”? Sometimes I think maybe the two terms are synonymous… That’s a big word which I picked up a lifetime ago in High School, If I recall correctly that means two words (or phrases, I guess) which Mean the same thing but sound differently. Of course I can’t guarantee that, My graduating class would have numbered thirty-two, if I hadn’t elected To drop out after my Junior year and enlist in the Army. Growing up? Or growing old? When you wake up in the morning, and feel As if you hadn’t gone to bed. Or, you come to the realization that you can no longer Stay up all night and work a hard twelve to fourteen hours the next day. (At least Not more than twice a week.) Or, maybe it’s when the thrill which you used to feel when a horse you are about to mount acts crazy, turns into a cold lump in your stomach and a feeling of nameless dread. Or, the doubt you feel about getting in the pen with a bad bull, or crazy cow, just knowing that you are two steps slower now, than you were when you had a fifty-fifty chance. Or, maybe it’s when you start apologizing to your wife and kids for being short-tempered, and out of sorts. When you stop meeting everyone on the street with a hard-eyed stare…. Or maybe it’s just when you develop a sense of your own mortality. You know? When the “it only happens to others” attitude is replaced by,,, “it might just happen to me”. Whatever the case….I am a Victim. Visit My Home Page http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |
