You looked like an angel on the morning when we met, Small and helpless in my arms, so intense, and yet I could tell you had a heart that could love with all your soul, I still thank God for allowing me to be with you as you grow. I remember our grocery shopping trips when you were very young, I'd "fly" you up and down the aisles in "death-defying" strafing runs. You were too young to read the brightly colored product names, But it didn't matter because right then your were an "arrow-plane." Do you remember the circus when we sat in the front row, And the elephants "waved" at you as they passed by us going slow? You cried at first and then you laughed as I held you tight, And you could talk of nothing else for the remainder of that night. The months flew by and then the years as you grew, my child, Always straining to be free, and perhaps a little wild. I didn't understand your drive to be different from the rest, But still I tried to encourage you to do your very best, Because seeing you smile made my life worthwhile. I remember your first beau and how he broke your heart. I remember how you cried, and how poorly I did my part To make you see beyond your tears that there would come a day When somebody worthy of your love would finally take you away. I cried at your wedding as we walked together down the aisle, You, my angel, dressed in white, with your radiant smile. And when I was asked to give you away, it was hard for me to do, I was afraid you wouldn't need me as much as I needed you. The years wore on and you grew to be a woman on your own, Oh how I missed your laughter that once filled our happy home. The days grew colder as I grew older and you saw less and less of me, Until all I had were those sweet times filled with your memories. Because seeing you smile made my life worthwhile. We didn't see eye to eye sometimes or find a common ground, But I love you with all my heart, and am thankful for what I've found. Though now my days have reached their number and my life is through, I'm still here in spirit, dear, watching over you. Because watching you smile makes my life worthwhile. |

Oh, LngJhn, I should not have read this at 6:06 a.m. It is far too early in the morning to cry. Beautiful. Corinne |

Why, you sentimental old salt, you!!! This is great, John. You have really captured the essence of being a father. Obviously, Toerag was wrong all the times he referred to you as a mother! Wonderful work, my friend ![]() ![]() |

LongJohn- What a tender, loving Daddy's heart I see here. Kleenex material for sure. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Long John this is what life is all about..the love shared by a father and his child. How fantastic to have all those lovely memories of wonderful times spent together. James |

This poem is so touching I almost cried (only almost, I am to strong for that). You've done yourself proud, you have brilliantly expressed the joys of life . |
