Gray rinsed light teases one's view through the early morning fog, drifting in from the coast on languid sea breezes, settling in the valley, long ago carved from stone by relentless mile high glaciers Warm evaporating lake mists rise and intertwine with the cooler coastal air, swirling about and casting ashen shadows across the deepening colors evolving on the surface of the placid lake The low tack and thrum of a bantam outboard motor, echoes behind the aging Boston whaler that plies through the still water, leaving quick travelling ripples to mark it's ghostlike crossing A fishing pole, secured by age dulled brass fasteners, bobs rythmically to the pull of deep swirling currents, as it trails behind the boat awaiting the chance to catch the eye of the denizens swimming below His warm, packed pipe releases small tendril of curling smoke, puffed occasionally while loosely held between befitting teeth, imbuing the air faintly with the slightly sweet smells of an open hearth hardwood fire Agile fish roll, feeding upon water bound blackflies, causing concentric ripples to break the lake surface, always beyond the reach of the bobbing fishing pole, but never beyond the reach of hopeful anticipitation A real man kisses his children goodnight |

Hey .... MOM's morning too ! Makes me want to put out a sign .... GONE FISHING ! 'The low tack and thrum of a bantam outboard motor' That line alone ... calls my name. Need a first-mate? I like much. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

I don't get to read and reply to all of them...not as many as I would like to. I think I am able to read as many as I do because I don't spend much time writing so reading what others have been able to come up with is the next best thing! Sort of tides me over until I get a spark of inspiration myself, I guess! Yours are always a pleasure, among the finest on the site! Denise |
