I-95 I ninety five is alive, It twirls and curls, Over rivers and dregs, On seven league boots, On concrete legs. Undulating passing flow, A flood shunting blood, Like a vein around bone. Cloned cars, in mass, Passing round, glass and stone. Siphoning food like a whale, Through baleen gates, Feeding, depleting By filtering booths, Eating, excreting. We are Jonahs swallowed, Disgorged each morn. Souffle, digested each day. Surviving, arriving, Thriving our way. No longer do I, respire quagmire, For I, conspired these old bones retire. |

Sy, you describe gridlock with your usual charm ...and make an enchanting poem from rush hour...loved it! |

I gave up I-95, too treacherous. I wouldn't mind being retired myself, though! Great poem, Sy! Denise [This message has been edited by dsnyder (edited 03-06-2000).] |

Seymour~ I recognize the grind of this road for sure. How I can relate to the 'baleen' gates. Being an admirer of Schrimshaw and after studying the Baleen whales ... this word stirred me to comment on it. You continue to amaze me. Fascinating image, sir. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
