Sitting by the Telephone I wait for that familiar ring But solitude appears my lot My heart detests this guessing game Of does he love or love me not I would be out enjoying life How can my heart in fun rejoice In revelry and celebration With no whisper of your voice It seems so strange here, all alone Not even a canary sing Just sitting by the telephone Awaiting that delicious ring So sweet the song to touch my ear So kind the comfort to my heart So deep the yearning of my love To hear your words while we’re apart No book, no poem, no written page Nor sound of music calms my mood Until I hear your loving voice I’ll drink no wine, and dine no food But will you call or call me not I ask this in my solemn drone And shed a tear of longing As I’m sitting by the telephone Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 03-02-2000).] |

Elizabeth, It's funny you should write this poem. My phone was out all day yesterday and I had so many calls to make. Ring, Ring, are you there? LOve the poem. Love Sy |

I love this, Elizabeth... the phone that doesn't ring is so noisy in its silence... and the "whys" frolic in my brain. *S* |

I patiently wait for the one to call who is in my heart and in my soul. The one I will love and adore. James |

Were I upon an island- Alone, a cast away.. and knew upon some distnat shore Malay, or Mandaly There dwelt a lovely maiden Awaiting for my call.. I'd make it, dear, so never fear Twould seem a task so small I'd swim the widest ocean I'd climb Mount Everest I'd cross the wide Sahara For her whom I love best. Searching for a pay phone.. Aha! and there one is! Don't go away, I've much to say to you, dear, precious Liz. By the way..wouldn't "awaiting" work a bit better in line twelve? ).. |

Martie, Rainbow, Denise, Tara, James, thank you all for the comments. Looks like we all know that feeling. Gunslinger, Your poetry touched me. The question is, when you get to that phone, will you have a quarter with you. As for "awaiting", it's already done. Thanks Thanks, Danny, still waiting Claire, Your response is so you. Lovely as always. Thank you Liz |
