Vast epochs cast as fossiled specks in time, Striated tombs interred throughout the world Lend touchstone sediments to advent's kind. Thenceforth anon wends evolution's change; As harbinger, the nascency of life, Foretold of destinies fulfilled this day. Lost relics note Paleozoic day. Emergent firstlings from the womb of time, Prelusive tenets of all earthly life, Predate the Great Divides about this world. Mute artefacts boast evidence of change; That sapience upstood in rightly kind. Caved scriveners carved etchings of first kind, Scribed signatures of juvenescent day. 'Til Cheop's spire spake enigmatic change, All messengers of pre-recorded time; Colossal seemed as wonders of the world Bore witness to the rudiments of life. In Ancient East rose early factioned life. Societies of City-States in kind, Civilizations aimed to rule the world, Grand Empires fallen remnants of lost day. A Golden Age quelled Medieval time And Renaissance of spirit enscribed change. One metamorphic centenary change, Transmutant of simplistic way of life. Extensive progress unsurpassed in time, Unfounded passage for all humankind. The precipice of scientific day Defines existence of a modern world. Futurity rends visions for our world; Endurance yet a quest subject to change. What imminence befalls untrodden day, As man espies intergalactic life? A Universe alone 'tis naught mankind; An Age is but a second lest mistime. Temporal world yields pendency to life; Millenniums' change plenary in kind. Man's day a flicker in senescent time. Golly, and I have enough trouble making sense of what happened just yesterday . . . and as for writing a meaningful sestina . . . maybe I should just compliment you on your vocabulary, and vamoose. In other words, I admire. |

Nan, Just what I needed to baffle my mind, an intellectual and eloquent sestina. Sorry, I can't come within a eon of this. So lost in the beauty and meaning, I didn't notice the repetition of ending words, it just flowed so smoothly through time. I'm in awe Liz |

Nan, You weave an intricate cacoon. But is it not the same moon, The same sun the same tribune. I would my candy a bitter sweet. Then packaged in a frame so neat. But I do admit you are the best. And have met all and every test. Your poem is as wonderful as you. Love ya Sy |

Nan- Sure makes a phrase such as, 'This is wonderful', seem so mundane. However, words failing me- this is wonderful. Only sent me scurrying to the dictionary twice. I enjoyed the adventure. Whew! I'd say you've done a relatively splendiferous job with this. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

"Vast epochs cast as fossiled specks in time, Striated tombs interred throughout the world..." What a great opening line. )I'm an amature Paleontologist). Loved it. ~Gene |

Hey, I thought you said there was no "picture of thyme" you could post.... geez... Very fine poem, m'friend! I'm also envious of your vocabulary.... couldn't even spell "torture" yesterday, remember? Duh. This kind of work exemplifies the reasons you are the resident poetry teacher! Excellent! |

Wow Nan. I'll admit, I had to go back and read this twice, and still I could not fathom the talent behind it. Bravo! P.S--Can you teach me how to write like that? < !signature--> "Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me." -Charles Brugnot [This message has been edited by Saxoness (edited 01-31-2000).] |

"Man's day a flicker"... For all our pomposity, that sure puts it in perspective, doesn't it? *G* Lovely, Nan! |

I really appreciate your taking the time to read and comment on this - all of you - I know it's one of my heavy-hitters, and they sometimes can get a bit... um... overwhelming??... Reading your positive comments means a great deal to me, my friends......Thanks again |

"One metamorphic centenary change" Loved the whole thing('course) but this one grabbed me. It says so much in so little. |
