But never raised a stir?

The charge that never quite took place-
The battle not quite fought...
The work begun, but left undone-
The vessel never wrought?

The love that died ere it had bloomed-
The vows that no one spoke-
The dream conceived, but not believed
The heart that’s not yet broke?

To me a man who might have been
A shadow, vague...forlorn-
A pauper? priest? a king? a rogue?
A bard who died unborn.
