THE ALIEN A poem for the Millennium The shadow by the huge craft cast Left Presidents and Kings aghast; Whilst spellbound ranks of U.S. might Stood muted by the awesome sight Of mighty hull descending low To touch the golden sand below. Light years of interstellar quest Had passed before she came to rest. The exit ramp, extended, brought Five thousand trigger fingers taut; As global populations viewed, Foreboding gripped the multitude. A solitary figure, slight, Surrounded by a silver light; Walked slowly to the ground below To face the Presidential show. His haunting cyber-phonic tone Was calm and clear - no malice shown; Yet amplified, that all might share, His discourse carried on the air...... “Withhold your weapons - have no fear! We ask no confrontation here, But come in peace and hope, To find...... the voice of reason in mankind. Established on a distant star, We have observed you from afar; In full accord with nature’s laws, Our place in time is not as yours. Our visit brings a timely warning Of the dangers that are spawning; Shades of wars ‘twixt forces strong - Of conflicts between right and wrong. For years you’ve sought, in distant place, Solutions for your troubled race That shall be found, in whole or part, Embedded in each human heart. Time is a house with many mansions, Forged in fires of vast expansions; Whose architect has shown His face Etched in the hearts of the human race. Despite advancement’s rapid pace, Keep caution’s insight in its place; Lest lack of heed to wisdom’s call Should bring destruction on you all. Seek not your visions in the deeds Of evil’s mercenary creeds, For in his purse lies grave temptation, Falsehood, lies and condemnation. Hypocrisy and greed for wealth Destroy the soul and harm the health. While nations starve and factions war, This bitter wrath will evermore....... Stain the hearts of those who follow, Render offspring weak and hollow; Except that men of moral heart, In leadership, shall play their part. Grief, depression, heartache, tears, The harvest of two thousand years; This legacy was made by choice Of those who would ignore the voice.... Of reason, knowledge and goodwill, Of One whose power is greater still Than any known to you or I ....... The choice is yours..... to live or die.” With this, the impulse engines fired, The ghostly figure then retired. On farewell gesture of his hand, Applause resounded through the land. Resplendent was her take-off power, Kaleidoscopic laser shower, Majestic thus, her parting flight, In blink of eye was gone from sight. The President, a fluent man, and wise in things semantic Unfazed by gross hysteria of paparazzi frantic, When asked for his reaction to this stranger from the sky, In pensive tone, with measured calm, he offered his reply. “Let history mark this great event A turning point in man’s intent. For Truth alone shall render whole The ethos of the human soul. The laws of which our comrade spoke, And his request that we invoke Their timeless gift, once carved in stone, Confirms that............ we are not alone!” © Rod Walford 1999 |

Theyyyyy'reeeeeee hhheeeeerrrrrreeeee hehe liked the poem. Im with Pdv, let me know where they'll land too! ~*~ Hell is not a place of fire and a devil with a tail and horns. But a place of torment because the light of God is gone. To escape this, accept the blood of Jesus Christ! ~*~ |

Rod, I already replied to this somewhere else, not sure what forum, but just want to say one more time how well written this particular piece of poetry is. You've done an excellent job here and should be quite proud of yourself. ![]() |
