THE ULTIMATE DENIAL

Our lives are held together by threads of hope
For what was, or for what could be
But not usually for what is
It’s by the grace of god that each day reaches it’s maturity
For there is a very thin skin
That shrouds the true fragility
Of our existence
In one second, one moment
It could all be gone
One step or turn in the wrong direction
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time
Being alive, itself is a sentence
For all that’s born will die
Yet, we pretend that it only happens to others
And blindly give faith to a sense of non-existent immunity
And in doing so waste our lives
Becoming kindred to the spirit of materialistic values
The pursuers of worthless acquisitions
And the collectors of empty experiences
It is all pretence
To cover up that we are no-where to complete
And that the reality of our mortality
Is our ultimate denial.

I agree with you completely.  We should live each day, each moment, as if our last...What a different world it would be if everyone did!

I agree with tulip.
You have done a great job at wording this
and putting feeling into it.

Truth has been spoken! And in good form I might add.  Carpe Diem revisited!

This is very well done.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Excellent poem!  Well done! Our own mortality is a tough reality to embrace.
