What if the heart is not where love resides?
Perhaps it lives elsewhere.  What if love abides
in some unsuspected organ, artery or tissue?
Some secret place from which our feelings issue.

For all we know, the hearts a Hallmark hustle,
it may be nothing more than merely pump or muscle.
An arbitrary symbol, selected wouldn't you know it,
by some befuddled lover, who called himself a poet.

Why not a wisdom tooth, it too contains no brain?
And like the heart, it sometimes throbs with pain.
As does the human ear, whose hurt we may mistake.
Was it an infection, or was it love's sweet ache?

What if love is found in our armpits or big toes.
Places you can tickle with a thorny red, red rose.
Or could it be reflected in the eye of a beholder?
Hey, I'm only guessing, can I be getting colder?

Ah well, the heart will do as well as any other sign,
it's been used for years and years on every Valentine.
But I know that love's alive in a kennel that encloses,
a hound with floppy ears, and the coldest of wet noses.

I love it! especially the last stanza...

"Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone
I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me."

HUGS

Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn.

What a neat poem! You surprised me a bit with the light"heart"edness of the last two lines. Very well written, Echo, in every way!

Glad you all liked it    It's amazing what you can come up with when you are extremely bored and the house is noisy LoL
