(I'm sorry for the hyphenated "cage-ed", but this stupid computer doesn't do stress marks, so I had to improvise) -wen I see a cage-ed tree Amid a field of asphalt Limbs skyward stretch to free As if to heaven could vault Yet at its feet, an iron gate Will not allow it out Holding back, it keeps it straight With sorrow, rage, and doubt For if this tree could leave its chain Traverse the cold, hard pavement 'Twould cry and flail its boughs in pain For this desparing enslavement. |
