I write this post with heavy heart. Moments ago, I received the following email from Bill's former wife: Bill Charles is in a Hospice Center in Revelstoke, Canada, with Stage IV cancer of the liver. Bill has posted many poems on your Web Site for the past 14 years. Asking for prayers for him and his family. |

Oh, thank you Ron, for letting us know. I recently sent an e-mail to Bill wondering ... I am soooo sorry to hear this bad news. But we must not lose hope and I will pray for him to recover, but especially that there may be no pain for him. Dear Bill has touched our hearts with his romantic poetry along the years and also with his kind nature and gentleness. I am very sad, but I want to reassure Bill that he will be in my heartprayers. Love, Margherita |

Heavy heart indeed. Bill has been an integral part of the site for a very long time. He is a decent poet and a good man with a kind word for all. My prayers are with him. |

I hope and pray that Bill will soon learn how very much he means to us all, and how very still our hearts have become learning of this news... A true gentleman. Be well, I pray you. ![]() |

Heavy heart. May I share the following reading and a prayer that it inspired: Does God Heal Today? By Robert Kolar, a believer in miracles. I've heard people say "It's God's will" or "I'll just leave it up to God" when faced with a serious illness or tragedy. Don't fall into that trap. God wants us to pray to him for help. In Luke 18:1 Jesus told his disciples that they "should always pray and not give up." and then Jesus asked "...will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?" Pray to God from your heart for healing. Don't stop. Don't give up. God wants us to ask him for help. He loves us. Over 20 percent of the Gospel is about the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught his disciples how to pray and heal. He sent them to carry on his work. Wouldn't Jesus want his followers to pray for healing today? Many spiritual writers have defined the call of healing so narrowly that some people feel they don't qualify. But today a new awakening in faith has made us realize we are not only called into healing for ourselves, but also in various degrees into healing each other. The Bible actually gives us some directions on how to pray for healing. For example, in James 5:14-15 we are told: "Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15) And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." and in James 5:16 we are asked to "confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." and then told that "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." In Mark 11:23-25 Jesus further instructs to forgive when we pray "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24) Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25) And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Only someone facing or sharing a serious sickness, pain or tragedy knows how hard it is. They know how hard it is to cope with the fear and uncertainty. They know how absurd it sounds when someone first tells them to "keep a positive attitude". They know how terrifying it is when the doubt comes. They know how hard it is to throw a mountain into the sea. But remember what Jesus told us in Matthew 17:19-20 when he said "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Faith as small as a mustard seed sounds a little like hope to me, and that's a good start. This healing prayer~ I have heard the winds of change Lord, as they sway and crackle the frozen branches in a last of winter plea. From my heart I speak into your ear with the certainty that you are listening. Many times I find your strength moving among my limbs, guiding my hands to do things I never thought I could. As I engage the winds as you have made them, then to linger in the smile of the sun by your design, I become immeasurably moved to bow my head and pray. It is the hope that I have, it is the very blood in my veins. These small grains of faith, when I am gulping breaths of cold and swallowing sobs of fear, these small grains of faith called hope. Father, our friend is strong in your grace, and has revealed a difficult passage, presently wrought with illness and fatigue. As we gather here on his behalf, we ask your care and gentle handling of Bill. Whatever you so will, shall be in his best interest, just as it is for all of us who come to you. We ask for relief from his pain, pardon from his burdens and healing for his mind, body and spirit. We are grateful for our friend Father, and grateful for the sacrifice of your son on our behalf. Please extend each a portion from all of us for the collective good of our friend and colleague Bill Charles. Father, please hold him gently in your healing hands and accept our prayers in testament of our faith that he will be well and restored soon in your might and glory. Amen God bless you and your family Bill, and fair weather on your journey. |

I have been trying to get in touch with him for quite awhile and was wondering why I hadn't heard back. I met Bill as one of the first from this site and he truly is every bit the gentleman one would expect from his writings. If anyone happens to find out if he can receive mail or phone calls could they let me know. Thinking of you Bill, and those who love you and will keep you in my prayers. M |

Thank you, Ron. This is why I volunteer at Hospice. While most who enter through its doors won't go home to recover, Hospice is one of the places where the act of leaving this plane is a gift and one goes on to the next plane in peace, with little pain. Personally, I am glad we have a place of honor for our poets who have stepped through their last portal as we know it. I get a lot of comfort from reading the notes and seeing their faces, and it allows me to gather myself in quiet among their voices. Thank you. My prayers join the others for Bill Charles and his family and friends. I can already imagine him, playing his guitar, singing his songs, and wooing the angels. |

It makes me very sad that we shall not have the pleasure to welcome back here dear Bill, but in the same time I trust he had a peaceful transition and will be accompanied by the Angels to his new destination back Home. It is good to know we will be able to read his poetry in the archives and remember him in the memorial site here at Pip. Sending condolences to his family. Bill Charles wrote the most romantic poetry here - and displayed it beautifully. I'll miss his kindness in his responses to my poetry. I'll miss his poetry and photographs. And, I'll miss him. Alison |

How incredibly sad... Bill was a friend to man; so rare when someone is a friend to all they meet, with sincere warmth and gentleness of spirit that sha'nt be duplicated. |

BC, I know in my heart of hearts that you know of the legacy of love and respect you leave behind. My dear troubadour, I have been missing you for some time and am saddened to learn of your trials and tribulations to which you have now finally succumbed. You truly are (and will continue to be on these blue pages) a Renaissance Man. Your talents were bigger than your life and they will live on. With fond memories I recall our poetic collaboration as well as our mutual love for the guitar. I enjoyed our commaraderie ~ especially in those early pip years. You and your loved ones are in my prayers. God speed, BC from BC!!! Love & Eternal Light, Linda |

My union with all of you throughout the years has always been broken up by lengths of absence but you have never been very far away from my heart. I hardly ever go to the discussions pages, and this isn't the first time that I felt drawn here to do so, to then find out some terribly sad news, like this about our dear friend Bill. At first I read that he was severly ill, thinking I could at the very least send some parting words to my sweet buddy... but then I got down to the part where Ron announced that he, had passed on... and I just sat there, reading, and rereading those words, over and over, and over... it seeming so quick, and unreal, and so, absolute, and final. I am still just sitting here trying to find the words, but no matter what you write, how could it ever seem enough, these last thoughts about a man who always had nothing but love in his heart, and warm and positive things to say to each and everyone of us... Goodbye my dear friend, as sad as I am right now, thanks for bringing me here to let me know that you are now at peace... you brought sooo many wonderful thoughts and feelings to so many here over the years, and for that, you will continue to etch those special feelings of life and relationships, through us, and the people that we inspire and so on ad infinitum... ... rest well dear man.. rest well. |

So sad to hear of this news Life Is Not Permanent ~Ruth Kephart~ Life: it is not permanent You knew that from the start And so you took each breath, each sigh That captured your own heart Then penned it here for us to read Long after you were gone Your very own remembrance left So you might carry on Life: it is not permanent Though you will always live For in this greedy world of ours You took the time to give A fragment of your very life A glimpse into your soul Composed in words of poetry Your loving hands inscrolled Life: it is not permanent Though not for death I yearn I still can’t help but smile to think That when it is my turn You’ll welcome me in open arms With Shelly, Byron, Yeats And all those poets gone before Inside of heaven’s gates . . . . . . . Looking forward to meeting you someday Bill, as well as my other poet friends who have passed on, on the other side of those pearly gates. |
