His body is supposed to be in US hands, and it is sure about time! It won't stop the war, but sure is a major blow to his organization. I sure hope this doesn't make him a darn martyr, but I suppose with the customs there, it may just do that even though his body is in the USA? However, they have been robbed of creating a shrine to this man's reign of terror. Another chapter closed thanks to the efficiency of US Intelligence. |

Heck I have been waiting 10 years to hear this news. I don't think I will ever forget this week, two historic events in one week, and both make my heart smile. |

His body was supposedly buried at sea. His body isn't in U.S. custody. |

It was the hands of the US until the autopsy was done. According to Islamic law, he was "buried" within 24 hours at sea to avoid his burial place from becoming a shrine. No country would take his remains, so it was a tasteful way to do it I guess without upsetting the apple cart. This explains the rationality of their actions. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/143838 [Fixed link - Ron] [This message has been edited by Ron (05-02-2011 02:55 PM).] |

Thanks for the article Sharon. I thought it was above and beyond our military to give him the customary burial rites of his culture...not so sure that I would have been as gracious. |

Denise, my dear friend....HAD he landed in your lap with instructions to "do with as you would"... for some reason, I think you would have done the right thing. What we think, is not always how we act. Especially when we are as kind and generous as I know you are. |

We are not in the business of being at war with Islam, whose customs we would have insulted. The business of carrying out an autopsy is problematic enough in those terms, as it is problematic in terms of orthodox Judaism. I hardly know what to do with feelings of relief at the death of the man. I almost want to blame him for the feeling of extra yuckiness I need to deal with as a result. I need a nice long bath. |

You're sweet, Karilea. Bob, I don't think there was an autopsy, but yeah, I can relate to the feelings of yuckiness. |

I wondered how I was going to feel if this ever happened, and was really surprised that it was relief, and a feeling of justice for thousands of people that felt the grief of that day, including my son who lost several good friends when the towers went down. I agree with Bob, I need a long, hot bath to figure out this one. What good can come from feeling relief or satisfaction on the death of any human being, especially this one. I hope there is no retaliation. Hard event to process, this one. |

It is very difficult to process this emotionally. But I can't deny that I feel better that Bin Laden is no longer with us. After some thought this evening, I have decided to compare Bin Laden to the pre-cancerous cells that were removed from my body via surgeries this past decade. If you aren't religious, or even remotely spiritual, suspend your disbelief for a moment while you read this and consider that many people do believe and actually feel that all of humanity is ONE. In that context, perhaps it can be understood that there might be times when a part of that whole must be sacrificed to secure the longevity of the majority. So, as bizarre as it sounds, I've decided that Bin Laden is like my uterus, which was leaning toward cancer with so much conviction. And you do know, that even knowing that, yes, I said "hurray" when it was gone, but there was still a feeling of loss that I still don't understand. That said, I would like to encourage everyone to try very hard to understand each other as we all go through the conflicting processes, because if we end up divided over this, we slow our own healing. As my surgeon said to me, "The surgery was a little more difficult than anticipated, but a success. Let's just hope we got it all." *smile* (He said "we"--all I did was show up.) Happy thoughts, good poet people. with peace and love to all |

A little setback -- they've had to go back to Mordor and regroup, it won't be long before we have them stalking us again. Let Rohan look to its horses! ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |
