Lambing season is over and as there are too many photos, I placed them on another website I'm a member of. As I 've named almost all my good friends at PIP, I needed some different names. But I thought maybe you would like to see them too, because this year I have special colors, like black and white which will show in their adult fleece too. Last litter (born on April 6) were triplets, not common in this breed. The mom was so fat I thought she would deliver elephant sized lambs. Suthern is not with me anymore, I sold her to another breeder up North and she's still there and has had each year a female lamb, of which two have been approved of of being typical for the breed and this year it's the turn of the last one to go up for inspection. So she's doing rather well. End of June we're going up North to inspect the sheep again and who knows, maybe I get to see her again. If so I'll take a picture and put it up here. What an education you've shared. Baby animals are so cute, and you really have a variety in those little lambs. Thanks much. I really enjoyed seeing them and reading your lines. God bless, Rae |

Smartchick is doing fine, I sold her to another breeder in the East part of The Netherlands. She had 3 babies, one in 2008 which passed the breed selection too and two born last year will go up for selection this year. |

How wonderful that you keep track of where former babies have ended up... so, the question is there. ![]() ![]() |

Hi Sunshine, keeping track is not so difficult, I'm the one who's holding the pedigree book LOL I know the ins and outs and whereabouts of all the sheep of our breeders. Sunshine was born in 2002 and sold to another breeder. Then she was sold outside the Association in 2005, so that's how far my tracking goes. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

So what is their normal longevity, Titia? I'm calculating that my namesake is at the very least eight [not ate] by now [if still around.] When we were operating our cow/calf herd, our cows could bear a calf around the age of 20 months [sooner than that is not good...] and live to bear 15-18 calves if maintained properly with proper feed and care. We were only in the business for 10 years, and had many of the original cows [purchased as pregnant heifers] and followed, for awhile, their faces when driving past the farmer/rancher who purchased some of them. I swear they would recognize our truck, and/or voices if we called out to them. I miss that. A lot. Will there ever be a Sunshine 2? ![]() Hugs, K |

Titia, your babies are precious and beautiful. Tears for the poor, sweet, stillborn angels. Know that my horse, Flicka and my dog, Daisy will have met them at the gates of Heaven and shown them all around and introduced them to everyone. Owl |

Latearrival: next spring you'll have a lamb that will carry your name. Mysteria: Misty Sharon died in 2006 at the age of 4 years. Sunshine: their longevity is very different, depends on where they live, their attitude as a mom and whether they survive the big outbrakes of deseases like foot and mouth and lately the blue tongue and how much land one has. Normally in the big herds it's about 5/6/7 years, before they will be replaced by younger ones. Most private breeders will keep them longer, sometimes up to over 10 years. Sheep do recognize the ones who feed them. They recognize my car and the neighbour who's living next to the meadow always know when I'm coming, because the sheep will start running towards the gate when they spot my car from far. The oldest sheep in the pedigree book who're still alive are born in 1996. There's always place for a Sunshine two. Alison, I don't think I have one named Alison yet, so you're on next spring. OwlSA, it's always sad when they're born dead or die too soon after birth. Honeybunch, it's your namesake who got the triplets. My daughter made some filmshots of my sheep while training my dog Dixie. She has put them on Hyves (the Dutch Facebook) http://lynn-13.hyves.nl/album/50743250/Dixie_the_sheepdog/cimIsan0/ I hope you can see them. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |
