Hey I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Live Poets Society of New Jersey... Anything at all would be appreciated. |

Hi cross country I did some looking around and it appears to have been called many different names over the years. Sadly it is a scam. Something like this: http://windpub.com/literary.scams/famous.htm A lot of companies will say you are entered in a contest and then write to let you know that your poem was "specially chosen" to be published in a book, that they will then try to sell you with a hefty price. They don't say that they are putting the poems of every single contest entry into the book. Most (unknowing) writers will buy a copy for themselves and some will buy for family & friends also. Avg 500-? poems a book, at $40-50 + s&h a pop. Nice chunk of money. They offer leather bound/embossed ones too for much more. The poetry market is rife with scammers. If someone wants your poem in a book, it's because it's good...not because they want your money. |

Hmmm... I looked at your link... It seems entirely different from what I've seen... (Feasible that they are the same though) I checked with two English teachers and a literary resource teacher, they said its legit. Also they don't try to force a book on you at all. Getting published is free and the book only cost $25 shipping and handling included. You also still own rights of your poem. Never said anything about a convention and only less than %2 of the poems entered get in the book. It says it's a national poetry contest and it only prints 2 times a year. It's also endorsed by FastWeb. (A scholarship finding program our school set us up with. Geez, I don't really know what to think right now... |
