Good evening, everyone. I am new to the whole forum aspect, but I wanted to try something new. I really need advice, and who better to ask then fellow poets. I recently published my first book of poetry, and I'm not sure how to get it noticed. It's available on many websites, and I know that a few have been sold, but I'm a little disappointed in the progress. It has received a couple of great reviews, but that doesn't seem to help sales along. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the book noticed through a wider audience? I've even started my own website as a promotional strategy. I've started looking at setting up book signings in my area, but now I'm out of ideas. Please help. |

Ooh that's a hard one! Maybe you could set up an e-mail with a link to info about your book. You could write something funny to encourage people to pass the e-mail around. Maybe use font and pictures to make it look very professional. Just an idea... Rileigh |

I wish I could help, but I haven't written a book - so this is out of my league. Good luck. Alison |

Have a look at Poet's Marketplace. They do some talking about marketing a book. Get readings, and sell copies of the book at reading. See if you can get interviews and readings on small radio stations. Get active in a reading series, where you help set up readings and venues for other poets. You tend to develop a sort of quid pro quo relationship with the other poets whose work you help promote, and this, in the long run is good for your work. It's important to stay interested in poetry in general as well as your own poetry in particular. Things that you do to help out other poets and writers help to bring you into the community of poets, and get other people more interested in what you're doing as a writer. Go out and do readings, however, that's the most important first thing. And always act respectful of the work at other poets are doing. Does any of this help? |

Thank you, Bob. I appreciate your helpful advice. I have been searching for places to do readings and signings, so I am actively searching. I have been invited to a book reading organization here in town that only discusses poetry, so I think that I will check that out as well. One of the members has a copy of my book, and apparently the others were very interested. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the advice! |

Maybe stick it on Amazon.com see if you get some nibbles? I'm too lazy to get my act together for a book. Congratulations and good luck on your book! LOL, and maybe post a title here, so we can check it out! |

make post cards; place post cards at your local library, any local stores that will let ya....if you're looking to get noticed in a bigger market, send the post cards to any magazine, that deals with poetry, Id even suggest your local tv stations.... ~~**~~ |
