Without going into details, I'd like to ask you to keep me in your thoughts. A serious health issue has arisen that will require surgery, possibly as early as next Tues. I've sent personal emails to three ladies this evening: Mysteria (Sharon), Diana(Owl) and Karen(Serenity) explaining the circumstances, and have given them permission to info to anyone who should ask. I came in here to get the prayers started as soon as possible if you or Karen or Sharon hadn't already put this in here. Kathleen is without doubt the finest human being I have ever known. She has spent a lifetime sowing selfless acts of profound kindness. The other individual who comes rather close by similar description, is my best friend, who also happens to be Kacy's 'personal care' physician...so, at least I can assure everyone that she is in the best possible human hands! I have just woken up and rushed for my computer to see if there was news from Bruce. The news is very, very, VERY grim! Kacy definitively has highly metastasized colo-rectal cancer. The main tumor is so large that the surgical specialist could not even do the full colonoscopy (could not get past the tumor to inspect the rest of the colon). She also has likely two (maybe more) tumors in her liver. They took extensive additional x-rays (looking for upper G.I.; lung; higher intestinal tumor(s); etc. Most sadly, Bruce has NEVER heard of anyone recovering from this particular scenario. At best, they might extend her life (which will be truly miserable) via chemotherapy and radiation (which is HUGELY devastating even on much younger people who do not already have a very weak heart (as Kacy does). Unless some truly astounding major miracle is somehow available . . . She will go into radical surgery sometime this morning . . Bruce has asked me to pass on the news to everyone. Thank you for your love and concern for Kacy. She DEEPLY appreciates it…as does Sara and Bruce. Please will everyone who reads, this pray powerpunch prayers/think healing thoughts to fever pitch. Kacy needs us big time NOW as we need her. I will be back here as soon as I get back from work. - Owl |

I KNEW she would make it! Miracle Number 2! No matter how bad the rest of the news, she WILL overcome the rest. Email from Bruce: It is 6:00 p.m. here in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. [Kathleen is FINALLY out of ‘radical’ surgery and ‘post op.’ recovery/’critical care’] … no further word from the ‘surgeon’; etc. at this point. Please all keep praying/sending healing thoughts! Dear Kacy, I am praying for you. I read the updates and know that this is serious and scarey. Please know how much I treasure you. When I came to PiP - I saw your pen name and smiled. I thought - now there's a woman who will understand me. You have and do. Your love for nature, Gaia, the ocean, and your fellow man has touched me on many levels. My friend, this is not goodbye. I can only hope and pray that all that Kacy has become carries her through this devastating time in her life. She is one strong, and very spiritual woman. As of 2 p.m. E.S.T.; Wed.(10/29/08), hospital personel had Kathleen walking a little and in a chair for awhile (all of which is, of course, for the moment at least, really good news!) Kacy, Sara, and myself most assuredly appreciate all the most kind and 'healing' thoughts, prayers, words; etc. that have been directed her way from all you grand-fine folks of "P.I.P.-land"! |

Kacy, I am thinking of you tonight. The sky is clear and cold. Remember those Interior early winter evenings? There's fresh snow on the tree branches and it was -14 this morning when I headed out to work. The river is frozen and I see small animal tracks along my drive way. Last night, I watched a Spruce Hen eating gravel in the middle of the road. I have always loved those birds. When I see all this, I think of you and wished that I had known you while you were here. Brief moments at the PC are my style for now. Thank you each, for your continued healing thoughts. After making it through radical colon surgery, I'm now on an intense nutrition regimen to strengthen my immune system and prepare my body for the possibility of chemo. The cancer has already metastasized to the liver. There are newer, less toxic treatments, and I'm hoping to qualify for some clinical trials. This is a battle I never anticipated, but then, does anyone ever expect to be told they have stage 4 cancer, especially when there were no symptoms until 4 months ago? If anything positive can come from this, it is that all who read this will get the annual tests recommended by their physicians. Do not assume that because there is no family history (none in mine) and few symptoms of illness, that all is well inside. Meanwhile, I am gratefully tapping into the cosmic healing energies that surround all of us, and gaining strength from this circle of friendship.
