Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

Crumpled paper tossed beside my chair,
feet are tapping, tugging at my hair.
Everything I say simply sounds trite,
wondering why I am so danged uptight!

Birthday wishes should not be this hard
(even those for Balladeer, the Bard).
I gnaw my lip, bite another nail;
watch a paper poem airplane sail.

I might need some water or a snack
Ice cream just might keep my thoughts on track
I could walk the dogs or feed the cats
My head’s in my hand as my feet tap.

I rub my eyes, mutter words I think
Mentally, they jump over the brink
Time to settle down and take a shot
A shot? Maybe that’s my first good thought!

It’s time to stop this horsing around
Buck up, silence these whimpering sounds
Mister Michael Mack, our Balladeer,
Poet, mentor on blue pages here.

Happy Birthday to you on your day
You’re a gift to us in many ways
Thank you for teaching and all the smiles,
the time you share, your poetic style.

Enjoy your day as we think of you
May all your birthday wishes come true.
