As most of you know, I was busy the last half year with the administration of the estate of my late Aunt Greet. Lots of work, because this house was build in 1930 (full of stained glass), decorated in 1930 and has never changed since. Furniture didn't move for 75 years! My Aunt didn't threw anything away, so you can imagine how fully packed this house was with beautiful things from way back.

Anyway, last week the house was going on the market for a starting price of 729.000,00 euro ($ 942.880,00). Within 3 days there were about 21 serious buyers. In this particular area the rule is that the first bidder can equal the highest bid, meaning that in that case the first bidder gets the house. Next day everyone could come and look inside and after that lay down his/her bid.
The highest bid was....800.050,00 Geez, I almost fell of my chair, that is in US$ 1.034.822,00!!!!

Add to that 10% buyer's costs and the imidiately needed repairs and making the house up to date to modern needs and requirements, about 150.000 euro.
Meaning that this man will be paying in the end an amount of 800.050 + 80.005 + 150.000 = 1.030.055,00 euro (=$1.034.822 + 103.482 + 193.884 = $1.331.490,00)

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT???!!!

Shame though that the Taxoffice will take 60% and that I have to share the rest with 10 other inheritants

Still, some of the inheritants thought I should've tried to get a higer bid. Some people are never satisfied. Luckily they can't order me around and everyone who is not signing for this amount, is welcome to go to court. Should one be thinking of doing that, that person gets a claim from me for the loss of part of my inheritance. But they won't do that, because the costs will be on them.

Titia~
What a lovely, lovely estate~

You've had your hands full for sure~

Danged ol' taxes anyhow !!!

I imagine Aunt Greet would be quite proud of the way you handled everything ... so the disgruntled ones can just shush up or pay up, right ?

Right !!!

Love you lady~

Wow! Wow! ~ & Wow! Getting such a grand estate ready for sale must have been quite the undertaking! I've never seen a listing with so many photos! They were wonderful! Loved the windows!

Now it's time for you to breathe ~ and then to go spend your money which is still a sizeable sum even after the government and your relatives get a piece of the pie! lol

I was delighted to be able to view the picture ~ and to read your charming post!

It is a shame that so much goes to the government - a bigger shame that you cannot retain the old home within the family.  I know how much time honors keepsakes...

as for your family, there is never a way that you can make all happy, so do what you do with the idea that it is all equal and fair.  At least you are not under the burden of being the "only" inheritor...which can indeed become quite contentious with greedy relatives.

You've quite the job on your hands, but your Aunt was a very smart person in leaving the estate in your very capable hands.

Take more pictures of the house, Titia...

from your eye and vantage point, I am sure we will all be surprised at what you remember through your camera lens.

Titia, for some reason (maybe because I'm late reading this), I couldn't get a picture.  I am sure it must have been a wonderful place full of many memories.  It is unbelievable the amount they charge for taxes...60%.....my goodness!  Hope you don't hav problems with the other interitants.

I wish I could understand, too, Titia... I'm trying to. I clicked the link and it didn't show me any image or anything... Maybe something's wrong with my browser. Anyway, sounds like the govt is taking a large tax on the property but it also sounds like you "almost fell off your chair" because the property value was way higher than you expected. Did I get it right? geezzzz... i'm such a ditz sometimes.

Anyway, I wish you well and it's good to be here to say hi again!
