This is one of the more unusual requests I've made from my Pip family, but I'm worried, and I need support/prayers/good karma/etc...

It's finally spring here, so the horses have been out on the grass the last couple of days. Today they were on there too long, and my Shammie is looking at her belly (the first sign of colic), and seeing as how I lost one horse to colic one year ago, I'm paranoid... Uber paranoid, seeing as how Sham is my life, she's my baby girl, and I don't know how I'd react if I lost her to colic of all things.

Please pray that she's just got a bellyache and that it doesn't turn into a full blown colic episode requiring a vet call out... Also... prayers for my peace of mind would be appreciated more than you can possibly know.

count on them...
I sure hope your baby is ok...I hope a vet isn't required, and that you are able to rest easy.

oh no, is she showing other signs as well?
if so, you know that call should be made, maybe she needs something...I don't remember what the vet here gave the two horses last spring that were showing signs of colic, but both horses survived
I'll be hoping for the best for Shammie and you

Intense prayers for Shammie, but please get the vet - I know it's expensive and not easy - but please at least phone him/her - but preferably get him/her out.  Please.

Hi Skyfire! I remember you from before when I used to be a member here. Never saw your lovely face until now! You're a doll!

So sorry to hear your baby Sham isn't feeling well! Hope it was just a little a bellyache and she's feeling better today!

Wishing you much peace of mind.... remember, worrying doesn't do anything but make you anxious. So, be calm, ok?

Oh Skyfire! I'm so sorry. I know you must be frantic.

I have to agree with Midnitesun and Owl though... can you just call the vet? It might ease your mind.

I am praying your baby girl Shammie has a bellyache and nothing more and I am praying for the blessing of strength and a peaceful mind for you.

Rhonda,
Not many people understand our closeness to our animals. But having shed many tears in my life I pray you don't experience any loss. Please keep us posted.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Rhonda, my family lost one of our favorite horses to something other than colic, but I know how close we were to him.  Lighting candles, sending thoughts and saying prayers to the creator....Hugs.

Hey all, thank you so much for the prayers/good thoughts etc

Sham's doing fine now, it was "just" grass colic like I had thought, but of course I started to panic when I was in my room away from three exiteable prey animals.

I got up a couple times in the night the other night to check on her and by about 2 in the morning she was back to normal. If she had still been acting colicky by then I would have called out the vet. He probably would have told me to come get a shot of painkiller to make her more comfortable; it's so much easier to deal with things when the cause is known.

Anyway, everyone's ok, I'm just about recovered from the scare, and she was tearing around in the pasture last night and freaking out over the pigs; I will be much more careful about the length of time they're out on grass for the next week or so, until their easily upsettable systems get adjusted to having grass.

Thank you all so much again, it was soo nice to know that I could come here and not have people say "she's just a horse"

and then He created the horse...

Oh I'm so glad she is ok!! That is fantastic! Who would say "she is just a horse" ??!!! That is just wrong.

They are precious...the animals we love touch our lives so deeply.

Thanks for the great news Skygal! I was getting a bit worried last night...
Anyone who can say "its just a horse"
maybe never had a precious animal to care for, especially a loving horse.

Tears of relief!  I have been in a permanent state of panic.  I kept coming back into this thread and when there was continuously no response from you (although I realised that you were probably tending to Shammie) I was convinced that the news was of the worst.  I was thinking of Shammie and you all the time and praying very, very hard.  I know I have never even seen Shammie (except of course in her photo) and I am all the way across the world from her, so I can't begin to imagine what a state YOU must have been in.  Thank you for taking care of her and monitoring her condition.
