Starting a thread to talk about and pray for the miners and their families. I've lived in WV my whole life.. I, like most people here, have family members who work in coal mines every day. This particular mine is about an hour away from where I am right now in Morgantown.. I pass the area each time I drive to my parents house. It's so hard to see it all on television. As of right now (11:30 Tuesday Night) they found one miner dead, and are searching for the other 12. Lets pray for the families of these men..

As usual the news got it wrong and announced at midnight that 12 of the 13 miners were alive.  It's 1:59 a.m. here in Houston now and a flash report just came on and said 12 or the 13 died; only one survived.  I feel so sad for these families who thought their loved ones were safe (for the most part) and then an hour later found out they weren't.  Very, very sad.

It's just heartbreaking...

Apparently, everyone misunderstood the initial
communication from rescuers, and thought they
were all alive...

I'm watching live news conferences right now,
and they're saying that, though the people in the
command center knew within 20 minutes that the report
was a mistake, the miners' families weren't told
of the miscommunication till over 2 hours later...

I can't even imagine what they must be feeling now...

My heart goes out to them all...
they will be in my thoughts and prayers...

What tragedy ... it must seem like 'losing' them twice to the family members~

I'm holding them all in prayerful vigil for the loved ones they've lost~

I was late for an appointment when I replied earlier, but I want to elaborate on some of my thoughts..

The media made no mistake.. the 'miscommunication' was on the part of the Mining company. They held off entirely too long, I think, of letting them know that the information was made in error.

I'm glad that Randal McCloy has survived. He's at my university's hospital and is expected to live.. but the horrible actions and mistakes made this situation a thousand times worse... I can only imagine how horrible it would be, to believe your loved one was alive, and then to find out they were dead.

May they rest in peace, and may justice be served on those who are responsible for bringing further pain.

"The midnight, the morning, or the middle of day,
Is the same to the miner who labors away.
Where the demons of death often come by surprise,
One fall of the slate and you're buried alive."
*
"It's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew,
Where danger is double and pleasures are few,
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mine."

(Excerpts-(Merle Travis)from "Dark As A Dungeon")

Two miles down, the earth is unlivable,
The air never fresh, the sun doesn't shine.
Down in the bowels, right after Christmas,
The crew turned on switches, to answer works call.

But plans always fail, when they go against physics
When Gods law was broken, a spark caused explosions.
To twelve men dead, escape routes were useless,
None can explain, why one didn't fall.

From far away, I search for  reasons,
Why still today, the mine wars go on.
Some blame the miners, some blame the unions,
But I  think that greed was the cause of it all.
