For all you Phantom Buffs, just wanted to let you know Went to see the Phantom of the Opera Movie and it was absolutely stunning... On the way to the movie, I kept thinking, yeah, yeah, this is going to be another one of those the "Book" or ahhh hem "the Broadway Play" was much better....well, let me tell you I have only 3 words Oh My God!!! The detail was stunning....the Opera House was gloriously arrayed with golden sculptures....it was an amazing experience and urge you all, if it is playing in a surround sound theater in your area, take the time out to see it, you'll root for the Phantom...it was such a delightful experience, ran right out and got the soundtrack for the movie.... Had chills and I'm not exaggerating, through out the entire movie, especially in the beginning when the chandelier moved back up into place. Hope you enjoy. |

Saw two movies this weekend...Meet the Fockers and National Treasure...laughed all the way through the first, and held my breath during the second, but National Treasure is only emphasized to its utmost if you have had any dealings in any of Dan Brown's books...absolutely wonderful if one wants a positive ending... So as soon as Phantom comes to town, it's on my list of Must Sees.... I have been taken by the music since the beginning...my gosh, I remember scrubbing my kitchen floor and cleaning my house [everyone was gone] and got it done in time to the music [played horrendously loud!] so the Phantom, to me, has always been the hero! Thank you, Lee! |

I saw it, Lee, and I wish I could share your enthusiasm but I can't. Let me tell you that the soundtrack of the album is the greatest musical possession I have. I have the CD in the car stereo where it has been for the past 2 years and I listen to it constantly. I know every note of music and every word to every song. Needless to say, I love it. I was extremely disappointed with the choice for the phantom. He simply didn't have the voice for it. He couldn't come anywhere near singing his parts the way they should have been sung. My other problem was with the song "Phantom of the Opera". There is a part right in the middle (how do I describe this the right way?) right after she sings.."inside my mind" wher the orchestra takes on a very powerful beat. It's almost like the music changes gears and goes up to a different level, like going from 60 to 80 mph and the voices follow that when they come back in. It is the greatest part of the song. In the movie they don't play it that way! I was really disappointed in that. I had been waiting for it... Other than that, it was a spectacular movie. The sets were mind-boggling as were the costumes. Had his voice been up to the quality if the rest of the movie it would be a classic. Unfortunately I think you will find it disappear rather quickly from the theaters, which is a shame. |

Hey Deer, thanks for your feedback....I believe my girlfriend is going to feel the same way as you did, regarding the movie...but suggested, she let go of the Broadway Play, and just enjoy the movie for what it has to offer... Yes, I did notice the lack of what you described, but refused to let it spoil the movie for me... The detail in the movie was supurb...and the gal who played Christine was fantastic and so beautiful she looked like a porcilin doll at times....and her voice was like that of an angel.... I believe if you can go to the movie opened minded, without refrence from the play...well, simply this, I am going to see it again....as the costumes and details not to mention, his underground hideaway was fantastic.... And yes, Deer...the Phantom could have been better....but didn't spoil the movie for me. Happy New Year Everyone.... Hugs Lee J. |

That's great, Lee. It's certainly an event to be enjoyed. The girl was indeed incredible and the costumes and sets should win awards. It's definitely worth the price of admission  |

I have been thinking about going to see it, but I saw the Broadway play with Michael Crawford in the lead as the Phantom and I'm afraid nothing can match that! However maybe I'll take a chance after reading your comments. Thanks for the input. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Betty Lou....allow me, if you will to suggest this....go not with expectation or in memory of the Broadway Play, but for the newness of the experience in itself, from which there are new enlightenings...a portrait of details, all of it's own...and you will see and enjoy....then, it will be a delightful experience.... |

I don't see what any of you see in Christine's voice. It was alright, but once she hit around a D above middle C, it was all very very strained. I guess it may be characteristic of her character, since she is young and sort of a beginner in singing, but I just wasn't impressed at all. The movie overall was enjoyable, but her voice and the Phantom's weren't very good. The phantom's acting was the best of the cast though, I must say. Raoul had a wonderful voice, however. He helped to redeem it all musically. Oh, make me Thine forever |

I saw it on stage and was enchanted...the move helped me understand some things. Both were great! And the music keeps playing in my head. |

I saw it....thought the play was moving but overdone, though I didn't see it on Broadway...still it was done by a Broadway cast in on of the West Coast's best venues... I'm going back for another dive into the movie, as the scenery took my breath away!!! It's one of those movies I'll probably purchase and watch over and over again...like Dances with Wolves...shu monnie tu tonka oh wah chee....hehehe Anyway, in my book, it's a classic...perhaps also due to some very sentimental reasons.... Lee,I went and saw the Phantom this afternoon and loved it... the only singing that I didn't think was very good was the Phantom's but he made up for it in his acting..I was sitting in front of a row of teenagers..it got so quiet in there towards the end. And I know I wasn't the only one wiping tears... M |

Went back to the movie for another dive, and when that chandeler comes up, I tell you true, something from way down deep inside wells up so, it almost brings me to tears...but then, there is also a very personal side to the Phantom for me....but I just was so moved by the emotions displayed...not to mention the scenery and costums... Loved the Broadway show, but this movie to me was awesome...and Christines voice, to me, sounded similar to Christines voice in the show...and yes, she did miss some keys, but...perhaps that made it more realistic...meaning, he was her teacher, she was supposed to be young and innocent...but her voice was stunning... The gravesite was awesome, scarey and beautiful in the same....those statues...wow! And enjoyed how it jumped back and forth from one year to another. Christines first performance on stage in that white gown and those little white flowers in her hair...absolutely beautiful!!!! Ok, I cried for the Phantom, big time...hehe God I love this show, can't wait for the CD...it is, I believe my favorite!!!!! |

Lee, I just saw it again and like you I cried several times, for personal reasons... and this time I could enjoy the story more because the first time the scenery just kept my mind stirring...each time I think there are other things you notice..I can't wait for it to come out in dvd so I can have it to watch any time I wish. I felt for the Phantom also. M |

I never saw the musical so I wasn't able to compare. It was worth seeing more than once and the second time I actually was singing along to myself.. M |
