There seems to be a major power outage affecting the North East states/Canada. Please keep the PiP members and others in your thoughts. |

I've been watching the television coverage for the past hour and a half. All those affected are in my thoughts and prayers. |

Okay, now I feel bad for complaining so vehemently. Haven't turned on the TV today, and I didn't realize it was a wide-spread and serious problem elsewhere. My power went out several times in the space of about 90 seconds, with intermittent "brown outs" thrown into the mix. I lost some text I had typed, but that's common enough, and the power came back soon enough. Except my air conditioner did NOT come back. I figured the quick on-off-on-off-on-off had fried something. Figured I'd let it set for a while and went back to work. An hour later, it was 80 degrees in the house and I couldn't stand it any longer. Turned on the AC again. Nothing. I was all set to jump in the car and head for the nearest appliance store, when I noticed there was no light in the refrigerator either. Okay, so next time I'll check the breakers first. I just turned on the TV and feel REALLY bad for complaining at all. |

My sympathy to all of you affected by this. We don't know how we depend on it until the power goes off. Love, Joyce |

I'm sure it's going to be scary tonight without lights. They should just tell everyone to stay home tomorrow! Ron..it's a good thing you opened that fridge! Hope things are ok now. |

I've been lucky. Things are still sketchy, but it looks like Blackout 2003 stopped just fifty or sixty miles East of me. No doubt the hiccup that tripped my breakers was its shadow. Most of the rest of our Michigan Members are almost certainly down. Kit, it seems, is right in the middle of it. I imagine Nan is, too. Pennsylvania looks clear, so our many Members in that area should be okay. I guess with fifty million people without power, at least a few of them will be ours. It's going to be a very long night for many. |

I know that Tiff (KnightlyShadows) is in New York City right now, right in the middle of it.. I have all of my friends here... and other friends in Toronto, but I believe that everyone will be safe in God's will. I hear that some part of northern WV are out as well.. I pray that my university has power! Oh, make me Thine forever |

Cape Cod checking in... No blackout here - But it IS 80 degrees. I went to find an air conditioner at WalMart today. It seems that Falmouth's little Walmart "wannabe" has been shut off for further deliveries - Not enough demand in this "breezy" place... Right - I need air... I don't sound like I'm complaining, do I? Biting my tongue here... Feeling guilty too... I'm fine - I'm fine... |

News of your blackout has reached us in Australia. I saw it on the news this morning, and at about 9am (Australian) power was starting to come back, I believe. Hope everything is okay for all those affected, but I guess they won't find out about our concern until it's all fixed! I remember a particular class at university, we were talking about a rather controversial subject, when all of a sudden the power dropped out through the university. The lecturer rang the IT department to find out what had happened, and told them it was her fault, that God must have been punishing her for talking about such a subject! We had FoxNews and Neil Cavuto on yesterday as this whole mess was breaking! Of course our first thought was, as for many, that it occured by some terrorist attack, and quickly breathed a sigh of relief as reports came in that from all apparent sources, it was NOT. Being in the midwest with high wind storms and such, we're use to power outages, but nothing ever seems quite right anymore when something like this occurs. We just don't immediately blame Mom Nature like we used to. I've not heard of any fatalities...and my thoughts are with all of you! 80 degrees? Hummmmm. I need to remember that as it gets back into the mid 90's today. |

Hello everyone! Just popped into Pip...lol....say that ten times as fast as you can...lol.....anyway I just wanted to let you know that our city in Ontario has power for now after being off most of Thursday afternoon and evening. They want us to conserve energy so I am going to just relax to-day and eat all of the mis-shapened ice cream bars left in our freezer.... . Seriously...I shouldn't even have the puter on, so you all take care, and we will be back posting and commenting soon. Hugs from part of the "blackout zone." Chris |

Just checking in. You're right Ron. I'm right in the middle of it, lol. My house remains without power since 4:00pm yesterday. My office on the other hand came back on sometime early this morning, so that's where I'm typing from. We're semi-closed at the office today. Computers are up, but we're supposed to conserve. We tried to reach a few staff members via phone to tell them not to come in, but missed a few and they came in anyway. Most have gone home now, but my partner and I are here. Driving home last night was the worst though, rofl! We lost power at 4:00, sent people home by 4:30 but still didn't know it was regional. By the time I was in my car and stuck firmly in the middle of a ton of traffic, I realized that I was almost out of gas! I THEN heard the full radio story and realized I was heading home and there was NOT going to be any gas stations open on the way! Every single street light was out and all were being treated like 4-way stops. I have a ton of stoplights between the office and home, and my usual 20 min ride was an eternity. I kept telling myself, don't look at the gauge, don't look at the gauge, and every time I looked (couldn't help it) it kept dropping. I was so low on gas that I turned off the air conditioner and radio to conserve every bit of energy I could, lol. I boiled like a fried egg. I eventually made it home (on fumes I think) and it took me an hour and a half. Hey, the fun part was, we had a nice hamburger and hot dog bbq last night, had a great (though very hot) sleep, and woke up to coffee and tea using the camping coleman stove, lol. Ahhhh, now this is the life. Anyway, I should get going. We've got rolling blackouts expected through the day, and I have no idea when the power to my home will come back on. We're still without as I type, and I've got a prospective buyer coming through our house tonight! Hope he brings candles! |

Am sorry for all you folks... We learned some years back living in the mountains with the snowy winters to have a back up. Our reezer's hold alot of supplies (not so bad in the winter) and in spring we had a lot of standing dry fall coming down on the wires. The Electric Company sent out a flier telling us if we had any timber that looked risky to not toch it but call them. Sorry again... hope all is better now. Regards: Dale |

haha...I'm like Ron. The blackouts are around us (Erie PA, NY, NJ) and have managed to leave us alone (Thank God) so to those affected, you've got my prayers :-) Failure isn't failure if a lesson from it is learned ~ KS |

We have been lucky, only a few "brow outs" as they call them. I am worried for all those without power, especially the elder since it has been so hot lately. I pray for everyone out there. |

Hi all! I have limited power just now after 24 hours..of no power OR water!! Thankfully I was at a friends's cottage yesterday when this occured and it was fantastic in the pitch black of night looking at the stars and watching the moon rise over Lake Erie. There were actually more people on the beach at midnight than during the heat of the day. Apparently there were 40 million without power at the height of the blackout...and they are still expecting 'rolling outages' for the next few days, throughout Ontario. So, we'll hang in here as long as we can and be thankful at least for partial power. [This message has been edited by Enchantress (08-15-2003 04:26 PM).] |

Sorry to hear about the problems some of you are having as a result of the power outage. It is scary to have it cover such a tremendous area of the U.S. and Canada. I guess the first thing we all thought of was "terrorist attack" So glad that was not the case. We had a horrible ice storm here a few years ago and so many power lines came down and transformers blew, we were without power for 9 days in November. It was a challenge and it helps me realize what all of those affected now, are going through. Hope everyone is back to normal soon! Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Sincere best wishes to all those affected by the outage- all the way from beautiful New Zealand- sometimes technology has a way of reminding us how much we rely upon it...... |

I am laughing myself silly here, Nan needs an air-conditioner ROTFLMBO, see told you it was hot there. As for you poor folks with power outages, my heart goes out to you. I watched Conan O'Brien last night who began his show live in the dark, then switched to a pre-recorded show, but it was interesting at how it was hurting New York, and sad. Hang in there, and please drink lots of water in this heat. [This message has been edited by Mysteria (08-16-2003 02:36 AM).] |
