As you all know “Lyra, Madame Chipmunk” passed away peacefully Tuesday morning. Some of you may be wishing to either send a card, flowers, or as she herself had preferred, a small donation to an environmental organization in your own area in her name, (this she suggested before she died, and it is shown in the obituary notice below.) It became obvious that you should be apprised of Lyra’s legal name for your donations, etc. and it was: (better known to us as the sweet Lyra, Madame Chipmunk) Below is her obituary, as it will appear in tomorrow’s paper in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After speaking with David a few things came up this evening, and one was that he suggested with her being such an activist for environmental causes, if anyone wished to make a donation in her name, (within their own community in Renay's name,) that would probably be very much appreciated by her, and the entire family in lieu of flowers. There is a link at the bottom of the obituary where you can, after tomorrow sometime, view her life story, make donations, order flowers, or leave a memory. You will notice that David and family have put a link in the printed obituary to her site here at netpoets.net for members of her family, and friends at the service and burial, plus those sitting Shiva to view if they wished, so I hope you have all signed her book to show how much she truly was loved within this community but if not here is the link to the visitor's page at Madame Chipmunk's site: http://chipmunk.netpoets.net PIERCEY-NESIUS, Renay Sharon Of Kalamazoo Died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 18, 2003. Renay was born April 13, 1944 in the Bronx, NY the daughter of David and Lillian (Platt) Schwartz. The family moved to Yonkers, NY where she spent her younger years. She attended Boston University where she earned a degree in Education in 1965. Later that year she married Monty Piercey who preceded her in death on May 22, 1999. Renay owned and operated The Culinary Shoppe in Kalamazoo before closing the business in the late 80’s. She then attended Western Michigan University where she received a Master’s Degree in Education. She was a founding member of the Asylum Lake Preservation Association and was a member of the Environmental Concerns Committee of Kalamazoo where she was a tireless advocate for a better Kalamazoo. Renay was an avid poet and was published both on-line http://chipmunk.netpoets.net and in print. Preceding her in death along with her first husband Monty was her son Eric Piercey and father David Schwartz. On October 23, 2001 she was united in marriage with David Philip Nesius who survives. Also surviving is a son Victor (Courtney) Piercey of East Lansing, step-son Joshua Nesius of Battle Creek, step-daughter Cristin (James) Hastings of Kalamazoo, 2 daughters-in-law, Joanne Piercey Franklin of Gobles and Tara Kramer of Kalamazoo, 5 grandchildren, Dasha Piercey, Valerie Hirsch, Rose Smith, Aurora Nesius and James Hastings IV, her mother Lillian Schwartz of Miami Beach, FL, a sister, Marlys (Dean) Abrams of White Plains, NY, 2 nieces Vicki and Brooke and many loving cousins nationwide. Services will be held Thursday 11am at: BETZLER FUNERAL HOMES Stadium Drive, West of US 131 269-375-2900 with Rabbi Harvey Spivak of the Congregation of Moses, officiating. Interment will follow at Genessee Prairie Cemetery. Shiva will begin at the family home immediately following the interment. Renay left the world a better place than she found it and suggested that memorials be made to organizations that benefit the environment. Please visit Renay’s personal web page at www.lifestorynet.com where you can read her life story, share a memory that would be appreciated by the family, make a memorial contribution, or order flowers online (read below on family wishes). ~*~ Please be aware that in lieu of flowers the family wishes for those who would like to do something in Renay's memory to donate to an organization that benefits the environment or the local hospice in your own particular area, in her name. Thank you. [This message has been edited by Sunshine (03-21-2003 03:46 PM).] |

Thank you, Sharon. Also - Some have asked where to send sympathy cards. If you care to send your condolences via "snail mail," please contact Sharon/Mysteria at mysteriasmuse@hotmail.com for an address. |

Thank you Mysteria, and Nan, for the information. I am not surprised to learn of things I did not know about Lyra - but it all fits.... |

Sharon, You do so well at the details. Bless you. Farewell dear Lyra. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Nan, thanks and yes, if you want to send a card to David please do contact me for the address. It was late and I forgot to mention that. See Larry, Nan is the "detail person" but she rubs off on you. When you go to Renay's Life Story on the funeral home site, you will notice options for sending flowers or to make a donation. The family would prefer in lieu of flowers you give a donation to an organization that benefits the environment or to the local hospice in your area. On this site you may leave a memory for the family to view in the days to come that may comfort them. The most important thing you can do for all of Renay's family right at this time is give them your prayers in their mourning. Thank you. (big hugggsssssss) Oh Sharon, thank you so much for the wonderful information, sweet friend, I will do the best I can to contribute to the memorial! I don't have a job so I don't have much money but want to draw and design my very own sympathy card for her, even paint something for her family after the memorial! (wipes tears) God Bless You Sharon and Lyra's family and all who loves her so very much! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thank you so very much. It's hard to do much today, Denver is still digging out from a blizzard. But I will donate to environmental groups here in Colorado, in her memory. May her soul rest in a Peaceful place forever. |

Sue noticed that in the obituary the link to Lyra's site is incorrect - thank you Smart Chic and here is the correct link to get you there, but Nan also has it in her announcement, as does Vicky with the link to her memorial page. It should have been printed this way, so here is the link to her page: http://chipmunk.netpoets.net [This message has been edited by Mysteria (03-21-2003 03:10 PM).] |
