On the very unlikely chance you stop in here, Lia, please contact me. I have a publisher interested in one of your poems, and no way to contact you... I hope this will also serve as a reminder for everyone published at the main site to keep your email address current. (For example, we have a Moderator using the strange and no longer valid email address [email protected] who should probably contact me with a current address - she's losing all the comments people are sending to her.  ) |

It wasn't easy. I managed to trace Lia's IP address to the Albany area, but could find no listing for her (real) name. I then hit the search engines, searching for clues, and got lucky. I found her old email address listed as a contact for a male at a NY school and guessed, just maybe, that might be her husband. And there WAS a listing for that name. Quite a few of them, in fact. While not quite as common a name as John Smith, the name wasn't exactly rare either. The long and the short of it is that I just got off the phone with Lia - and the excitement in her voice was well worth the effort. The family recently moved and she doesn't yet have an Internet connection, but with her permission, I have passed Lia's real name and phone number along to the publisher. Mitch, the contact, wrote me again last Friday, expressing concern they were running out of time on his end and had to submit final selections in just over a week, so it really sounds as if it's pretty much a done deal. Lia's poem, "The Final Act," should therefore appear in the upcoming Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul - Tough Stuff book, marking our third (that I know of) Resident Poet to debut with that publisher. Mitch and I are also discussing the possibility of cross-promotion between Chicken Soup and netpoets.com, so our Poets can get even more exposure. It's been a very rewarding morning. |

I'm not sure how long it's been out (I don't browse the teen section at my local bookstore too often), but I just picked up a copy of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff (and that wasn't even the longest title in that section). The Final Act is on page 33, under the author's real name, Lisa Teller. We got a nice little thank you in the acknowledgments, too. "… Passions in Poetry web site (www.netpoets.com) has been a constant source for amazing poetry." I haven't talk to Lisa and am guessing she still hasn't replaced her computer and returned to the Internet. But I'm hoping she's at least half as tickled as I am. |
