Which would you like more? An email letter or a 'real' letter - envelope/stationary/stamp...

When what the last time you got a really good snail mail letter?

The lost art
of letter writing--
perfect paper
and ink just so

perfumed mists
and penmanship
rough drafts
rumpling the floor

ellipses
eclipse
signify
a certain want of more...

A waxen seal
bespeaks the truth
clear intent
determined couth

hand delivery
denotes
patience due
of love that waits.

Essence of the soul
in ink--
drops of sweat
in proof of think

And tears
that stain
create rainbow
from papered fragile hue...
The fears
of pain
will travel road...
a postmark left, 'tween me and you.

Sue? Oh lovie, your answer did not "suck"!

I think, if you forgive me for presuming? Is what you meant, that you cannot "hold" an e mail, you can't finger the edges lovingly...you can't sleep with it under your pillow. You cannot sniff the paper and smell the scent (or imagine the scent) of your loved one actually there.

There is something, just very romantic, about ink and paper...smiling, but if I didn't think so? I doubt I'd attempt poetry.

(Oh...and always send an empty page addressed to self...smile..an empty page? BEGS AN ANSWER...)<--serenity's helpful hint It might not be the answer you'd like, but it all looks good on pretty paper...

Hugs, both of you.

~A 'real' letter. With all the little touches of the 'sender' that it brings,...definately. And I last received one on May 15th. -- (for her).  *Peace.

I enjoy each and every piece of email I receive from friends but there is a special thrill that happens when I open the snail mail box and something is in there from someone that took the time to pen a letter to me. I find those very endearing and keep them in a box. Emails generally find their way to the recycle bin.

So should we start a 'pen pal' list?

Email is my preferred method of written communication.  I find I can no longer write (not that I ever could).  My signature on credit card slips is illegible.  I've always had bad handwriting and I'm blaming it on my grade school teachers
Even if I sent a letter it would be done on MS Word and printed out for my illegible signature.
I am a victim of computer technology ... and I LOVE it
If I need to pitch woo, my poetry will have to do.  And, if I need to support that effort, I will call on the phone and woo her in baritone

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Sharon, that's such a good idea!  I love getting/sending "real" mail - a pen pal list would be very cool.

Laughing at Bob's answer.
I would like a romantic old letter, done in beautiful stationary, wax sealed, scented, and so on. (But only a woman would ever send one, and since I am inclined to prefer men, I won't hold my breath)
I do like the immediacy of email, though,it is good to get a response the same day, rather than 5 days later.

ah - yes, there are a couple that i remember that are special to me... sadly, i only have one left. still, you can do things with normal letters that you can't trhough email... put special things in them, draw pictures, doodle, etc. yes... though i have to agree with Jamie - my penmanship was bad enough before i started using the computer to type everything - now? hahaha - only if you're my mom or a cryptologist!

I’m fortunate enough to get snail mail and e-mail from someone very dear to me. I love the speed of e-mail, but nothing compares to the real stuff, with his handwriting that I can touch and keep forever. There is so very little mail like that (usually just bills and adverts), that it is such a joy to find a lovely letter or card when I open the mailbox.

Having once had a very (even been called "pretty" YUK!) nice  handwriting - that has, since computers came into vogue, turned to dog do-do, and having written many letters similar to MOON's preference (not perfume, etc...), in long-hand, I would not leave email writing for anything in the world.  It's so easy, spells so much better (but not always) and is so-much-faster to accomplish that I don't miss the labors of "handwriting" one iota!

Thank god for email and computers in general!  I miss that bit of the past (penmanship), not!

Sorry.

Who can afford the stamps?  I love writing "real" letters, I love receiving them!  The tangible in the reality of a letter that cannot be taken back, is yours to keep, is something that cannot be exchanged in an e-mail.

And I think the Serene One should post her poem in Open!

Well I love e-mails. Long, in depth e-mails.
Letters are nice to get, but what happens after? I keep them all....so I have to sort them into this file and bla bla bla too much work. Letters are nice, especially when from a foreign place....but i like long e-mails more.

Real Mail.....I love emails as that is a quick easy way to say hello how are you thingy, but I agree with Sunshine, a real letter you can keep....in a safe place to read over and over....

*sigh* In a time when my computer access is very very limited and will be for a while, I would LOVE to be part of a pen pal list. I love using stationary when I can.

How grave is my condition, for I cannot find the words to say, I need you so.

there's nothing better than a real letter. . .

it's something that you can hold onto. . . and make yours. . .

I love to write letters. . . but, sometimes. . . I get carried away. . . I've been known to use 18 pages of 8 1/2 X 11 paper. . . BOTH SIDES!!  LOL

I like real mail! It has been a real long time, since I recieved mail from anyone, other than for bills. A pen pal list sounds good to me.
