What do you all think of this medium, and the show? I find myself obsessivly watching, trying to pull some glean of hope for the afterlife, and I often feel that he is sincere. I just hate to delude myself anymore. I have such a habit of that.(well known to all here ) Do you think people that have passed are truly available to us to contact in any way? If not, where are they? And even if so, where are they? I wish I cold talk to the guy, but he is not availble for people to ask personal questions. Any thoughts appreciated. I just got the date(may 1) of my Grandmothers burial, and I am so stressed and sad, I guess I just need to talk out some of these thoughts. Thanks. My personal belief is that it’s all a sham, I have to stress that that’s my personal belief, with extra stress on the personal bit and a major underline on the belief part. If someone really believes that a medium can somehow contact a relation that’s passed away who am I to deny or detract from whatever comfort they might gain from that belief, saying that though states the obvious, to gain anything the person must really believe. Does it work becomes a pretty useless question in the end, there is no proof that it does apart from the testimony of those that believe (and they aren’t likely to say otherwise). And there’s no proof that it doesn’t apart from the testimony of those that don’t believe (I think you get my drift). Asking either party is going to get you mixed and biased answers, the best advice is to go with what YOU believe, bearing in mind that being unsure falls short of belief. (Ever heard of catch 22?) Thanks for the chance to read and reply |

I personally tend to believe this man is for real. We can't discount the 'paranormal' just because it's impalpable. If our world hadn't had people like Christopher Columbus, Thomas Edison, Ben Franklin and the like; we'd still be living on a flat earth with no electricity... ergo no computers. Forerunners in any novel venture are invariably scorned as heretics... Can you imagine telling your great-grandparents as children that within a few years we'd be walking on the moon... and that they'd soon be able to chat with folks from the far corners of the globe via the internet?... First, if John Edward were not legitimate, he'd have a whole lot of folks out there who'd be on the payroll as actors for the show. If that were the case, they wouldn't all be able to keep their mouths zipped, would they? They'd be talking - and he'd be uncovered in rapid order... Assuming that these folks are on the level, they aren't all 'believers' per se... Many enter the gallery as skeptics and walk out believers... so.. Why not have an open mind? Are people who've 'crossed over' available for us to communicate with? Why not? Just because we can't see them? Some say they can see spirits... Again.. Why not? John Edward isn't 'unavailabe' for discussion, BTW.. He's just backed up for three years - so they've shut off requests until they can do come catching up... sorta like our submissions to the main site, right? I find myself quite intrigued by paranormal phenomena and I DO watch John Edward whenever I have the chance to do so... Sorry about your grandma, Sandra.. I too have long held an interest in all things paranormal and while I have only watched Mr. Edwards show a few times (and thus feel too uneducated to give a proper opinion regarding his talents), I do believe that it is possible for the "dead" to contact the "living". I put those terms in quotes because who can really say what "death" is? Does one truly cease to exist? Or does one travel to another medium... level... plane of existance... Heaven... etc...? A very interesting subject and one that I would love to discuss more! Jeff (jeosborne@islc.net) |

They have tried to debunk Edwards several times...I too have been obsessed in watching him and often end up in some bit of teariness over the PLEASURE people have in being given a thread of release...especially those who were not around to say goodbye when their loved one passed away... Who is he hurting? As Nan pointed out in part, we haven't uncovered all of the unknowns. Why are there massively huge buildings under water? Where did Atlantis go? Why do we cling to the thought of mermaids [and mermen? ] Until it can be proven positively that he is paying each "actor" to "make believe"...then...then I might buy it. But I've been privy to some strange "happenings" and have no way to debunk them...but I know they occurred. Go ahead...call the institution...I could use a rest...LOL...but it won't stop me from believing that the impossible can happen... [This message has been edited by Sunshine (04-11-2002 09:26 PM).] |

Yes, absolutely not, and maybe. In that order. But now, let's jump out of order. Yes, death is real. Maybe there is reason to believe communication with the dead is possible, though if so, I believe it has nothing to do with psychic phenomenon. If you believe in God, in any form, then you already believe in communicating with the unseen. I would be the first to admit there is much more we don't know than what we do know. One thing we do know, however, is that the scams perpetuated by the spiritualists of this world are absolutely not psychic. They're not even new. I've never seen the show, just cuts of it from a documentary. In the documentary, made shortly after the show became popular, a psychologist virtually duplicated the same results Edwards gives in every show. The trick is a targeted audience (why are they there?), leading questions, and the ability to "read" human reactions, both verbal and nonverbal. Remove any one of those three, and the results change dramatically. These kinds of circus tricks have been known for centuries, with some of the most interesting exposes documented by Houdini in the early Twenties. It takes surprisingly little practice to be surprisingly very effective. Sandra, I'm sincerely sorry to hear about your grandmother. I know, from experience, how tough it is. I personally believe that her essence, her spirit, lives on. There IS life beyond death. But I also believe if she has something to say to you, now or years from now, she won't need a human intermediary to say it. She'll say what needs to be said to YOU, not to a stranger she's never met. |

Ron, that was very well put, maybe the results can be replicated. I guess I just want to believe. In something And I don't really even know what. Thanks for replying. Lauren, thanks for the comment, to the ? and the pic |

I have to tell you something strange perhaps I should have when this happened, I came across this while at the library awhile ago and was reading your post catalina and I looked over to my right and there was a John Edwards crossing over book at the computer next to me!! you know I totally believe in all he does he gives me goosepimples, I only saw his show once though bc Im no good at catching a show when I want too:p but I do believe our loved ones keep in contact with us, even if it's not through a median, through dreams..I mean I mourned for my one grandmother before anyone else knew she died, I wrote a poem my dad didn't believe me and 5 mins later he did get a phone call telling him what I just told him..I even thought she didn't love me but she constantly came back to me in my dreams reassuring me that she did and after that no more dreams...freaky huh!? nuff of me rambling..but it happens...and ha I'm only 21!! Love, Kristen |

CatalinaMoon~ I am receptor ... it isn't something I've worked at or practiced ... it's just always been a small part of the makeup of who I am~ I don't ask for or seek the 'messages' that come to me ... but, I do accept them as being valid communications from sprits of those who have departed this earth-plane~ Just be 'open' and perhaps someday your dear grandmother will bring you a message to put your heart at ease~ *Ron ... a wonderfully sensitive response~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Personally? I am always suspicious when "spirituality" is commercialized. Be it New Age, or established Religion...it makes a mockery of the sacred. It makes my spirit weep. |

Sandra, I believe there is indeed life after death, but whether or not someone else can show it to us or not is debatable. I have always assumed that if my father chooses to speak to me, he will do it himself in his own way, and I do believe that he has...in his own way. I wish your spirit peace. I love your new pic also. Ron, thank you for the kindness and sensitivity of your answer in Sandras time of sorrow. Sandra, any way I see it, your grandmother smiles upon you with her love. Heart hugs to you precious one. *hugs. Like a red brick, |

People like that prey on those who are in despair or who are need in of something to cling on/believe in. The appearance of any sincerity does not begat honesty. |
