I have spent much of today, perusing the forums and reading the touching poetic tributes to the people that most of us spare a thought for just one day out of every three hundred and sixty five.
Well thought out, cleverly expressed words that have made me stop and think that although those of us who have never seen, never been, cannot begin to imagine the horrors that our war veterans experienced to secure the freedom that we all enjoy, I for one will consider that the next person that I give my seat up to on a bus, or just smile and say a passing good morning to could well be a hero to whome I owe so much.
I think the overwhelming message of the day is:
"Treat each passing stranger with respect". For you know not who they are, what they have done or what sacfirices they may have made for the greater good of us all.
If a poem can change just one person for the better, by provoking thought, which is subseqently followed by possitive action, then it is surely true that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword.
So keep on writing, lest we forget.
With respect to you all. Not just on this day but every day.

Ven.

Since this is not a poem, I'm moving it to the PiP lounge.

The reason for posting this in the poetry forum was so that the people that frequent it and read my work on a regular basis would see it and read it. I have been posting on this site for several months and have never even looked in this particular forum as my passion is for poetry. Not general and conversation. I believe that by moving this post the people that it concerns the most ie; the poets, who were meant to read it will not.  I understand your reasons for moving it from the Poetry forum but think that maybe a exception could be made due to the subject matter, the day, and the intended audience.
I would be grateful if you would leave the closed post up as my intention was to get this read, reply's are unimportant.

Thanks,

Ven

Then why post a non-poetry item in a poetry section? It may seem odd but other people are the same as you and expect to see poetry in the poetry section and general comments and conversation elsewhere.

Many of our poets visit all of the forums, Ven.  If you look down the list of names on the screen, you may see many you recognize.

Poetry is our first Passion, I believe that is the reason we are all here.

I look forward to seeing some of your feelings about this day posted as a poem, and in Open Poetry #16, for all to enjoy.

Thanks for your understanding!

Prior to this post I had already posted a special rememberance day poem in the Open Forum. Its title is "Neglecting the Hero's".
I'd be interested to hear your views if you'd like read it.
Best wishes,

I rarely ever come in here, but was delighted I did when reading your message.  I especially like your thought that any stranger may have  been instrumental in our freedom.  Very inspiring.  Thank you.

If I may add a comment to Sunshine's...

Bluntly: if a person can't find their way to a clearly marked discussion forum then that is no one's problem but their own.

If you had bothered to read the whole of this thread before posting a reply you would understand that I had no intention of starting a discussion. The post was a message to poets.
I am perfectly capable of navigating my way around a web site and take offence at the sugestion that I am not intellegent enough to locate a particular forum.
I'm not here for an arguement. I just wanted to try and make people stop and think for a while.
Maybe you should go to the top and read it again.
Ven.

I'm sorry Ven - I wasn't actually directing the comment at you at all. I will elaborate in hopes of soothing any hurt feelings...

I mean only that the Open forum is for poetry and basically anything else goes into one of the discussion forums. I feel that this post might have been well suited to the announcements forum for example...I made my comment as a response to your concern that the poets who should read it might not...my comment was really only intended to be tongue in cheek...

No offense intended

K
