Do you consider yourself a 'writer/poet' that is just making a living doing something else, or are you someone who likes to write as a hobby? When you fill out a questionnaire that asks 'profession?' do you write down poet or writer? |

I'd have to say writer because I don't just stick to poetry. I cover all areas...not well but hey. As for the profession, student should cover it for the next 8 years. ~AF~ Just because I hear voices doesn't mean I'm crazy...SHUT UP IN THERE!!! |

Since it's not the main thing I do, but one of many, I generally put writing, poetry, one-act playcraft under hobbies, along with cooking, camping, SCA, RPG's, PC repair, reading, and hiking. There's a lot more, but most applications only have so much space. |

Well, I don't write down poet or writer yet. . . but, like Alicat, I do put it down under the "hobbies and interests" section. . . you'd be surprised how many people in the business sector are poor writers. . . ------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

I want to become a writer....so I'll obviously be putting that down on my resume. I consider myself to be learning how to be one....that's the whole point of university and passions.....learning and sharing. |

I have to put "writing poetry" under hobbies/interests. I don't believe you can make a serious career of poetry alone, even famous poets lecture and teach. I am certainly not part of that academic group. I am waiting for a movement like the Beats, or better yet a new Renaissance to come back into fashion so I can make my stab at fame and maybe put poet / philosopher on a resume. I would like to put Poet down as my occupation, unfortunately I can't. I am a paraeducator, I may never be anything more, who knows. I am not sure if I am good enough to be a poet as anything other than a hobby. And maybe I am afraid to find out. I certainly am unsure who to ask or where to begin. But it would be nice to list that as my occupation. |

What an exciting question to answer....because I do make my living from writing! I AM A WRITER IN EVERY WAY!!! Prose is my forte, with Poetry being something I have to "work at" more, although when a piece flows it really, really flows. Also, since I have been participating in public "Open Mic" settings, it makes me feel more like a poet and I find myself writing more poetry. Always a delight! Thanks for asking the question, it surely brightened MY day! With Purpose and Passion, JULIE ****************************** |

I'd love to reach the level of professional writer someday, but for now it just goes under "hobbies". "Men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, for everyone can see and few can feel."-Machiavelli |

It would scare the hell out of me, because I don't see myself as a poet, just as person who tells stories on rhyme. I always rhyme, even at work when I have a message to mail to my teammembers. They remember the message better that way I discovered, ha ha. Poetry is just fun for me. Titia A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess... |

I consider myself a writer/poet, there is nothing else I want to be. However, depending upon the application, I will put whatever boring career I am involved in at the time. But I don't mean it..LOL Sandra |

I have no desire to get paid for writing my poetry. I write because I love to write. I want to be a musician, not a writer. Although, I will assuredly continue to write as I grow older. --Marie You can’t expect the roses to grow without the weeds. |

I increasingly find writing important to me. I can only imagine being compensated for it. When and if writing ever paid the bills I would consider myself such. In the meantime I am interrupted in my new interest trying to make a living doing something else. I do find myself reading poetry to my customers on a more frequent basis and even had one woman weep in front of her husband at my poem "Letter to my children". For a moment I thought I was going to lose a $43,000 sale. Who knows? Maybe....someday. "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve" |
