I have yet to meet a poet who wasnt as passionate about music as they were poetry...and many poets also write song lyrics...and vise versa... and I see many of us here include song lyrics or use them as our signatures ... Anyway... are there some certain song verses or even just one line from a song that once you heard them they have stayed with you, maybe for years..as they perhaps define you... or they define a moment in your life that changed you. I had a song writer friend who called such a verse.. "A FACT OF LIFE" .... words to live by. You know, I wish I could remember more ofthe lyrics, but all I can think of is "Love Hurts" yeah yeah...Love Hurts by Nazareth. Now I know there were other words, just I'm too depressed to think of them. I'll come up with some better stuff tomorrow. Sandra |

I really like the lyrics to Pink Floyds "Wish You Were Here" We're just two lost souls Swimmin' in a fish bowl Year after year. I also like 3 Doors Down Kryptonite You called me strong, you called me weak, But still your secrets I will keep. You took for granted all the times I never Let you down. You stumbled in and bumped your head If not for me then you'd be dead. I picked you up and put you back on solid ground. (this lyric reminds me of my husband) This is from Soul Asylum Runaway Train Can you help me remember how to smile? Make it somehow all seem worthwhile? How on earth did I get so jaded? Life's mystery seems so faded. And then there is Tubthumping by Chumbawamba I get knocked down but I get up again You're never going to keep me down. |

I am shocked how long have we known each other OH you should know I have a passion for music and lyrics. Oh I am trying to think now, mind almost went blank. Of course I have to mention Manic street preachers and Joy Division. I can't think of any really uplifting poetic lyrics. THe first one is a b-side so beautiful and haunting. Could easily pick almost any Joy Divison song and call it poetry. Someone up above mentioned "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. I love that song. "So, so you thought you could tell heaven from hell." Counting Crows have some great songs. This one's from "Goodnight Elisabeth." "We couldn't all be cowboys so some of us our clowns, and some of us are dancers on the midway, we roam from town to town." But I think the greatest lyric ever written is in Pearl Jam's "Wishlist." "I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood." Man, do I wish that sometimes. They said someday you'll find All who love are blind. But when your heart's on fire you must realize Smoke gets in your eyes. So I chair them and I gaily laugh to think they could doubt my love. Yet today my love has flown away I am without my love. Now laughing friends deride tears I cannot hide. So I smile and say when a loving flame dies smoke gets in your eyes. This song I heard as a child and realized at that time that there was more to song lyrics than I love her and she loves me and happily ever after......so I went on to write many many sets of lyrics trying to capture the pure genius and simplicity of these words! |
