Jenn, so you thought it would make a good topic to discuss? hmmmmm ...I only brought it up as I have noticed sometimes, replies to poems that seem rather personal and without meaning (or so one assumes)to make it appear that there is a relationship going on that doesn't really exist...so how does one prevent that without offending another...and I know that sometimes we are in a vulnerable state and want to read more into something than is there...just some more explanation on my poem in open called "A Poets Effect(ions)" /pip/Forum47/HTML/002664.html So how does one deal with it... The internet is a wonderful form of communication. But there are drawbacks. You can't see the smile on someone's face to know when they are teasing...or flirting..or being sarcastic. Smilies help  but even then you have to be careful - I've gone back to explain that I was just kidding or teasing after a reply was misinterpreted. Did I understand your question? |

yes..and I pretty much understand all that..but just suppose that someone else really doesn't know..starts responding on a forum with "I love you's" sometimes making that person feel uncomfortable, yet there is no way to let that person know it, without making a big deal about it in another response to them...for instance if there is no email address or other way to communicate other than that..to be put on the spot is not fair..and also to be constantly mentioning a particular name under other responses ..after awhile it is almost like being stalked..or trying to make others think there is something more than there is between them..or maybe it's just plain naivite'...no matter what the reason..it can make someone feel uncomfortable...I was just trying to bring an awareness....  and am not meaning to cause any problems to or for anyone..but if this is the only way to bring it up..by a poem or as Temptress suggested in a discussion...well then here it is.*s thank you Sharon.Maureen [This message has been edited by nakdthoughts (edited 05-06-2001).] |

nakdthoughts, I know sometimes I read a poets work and can relate to it...it can really hit home with me. I feel close to that person so sometimes I don't reply to their poem so I do not come across the way you talk about. I have had times where I have been the one on the receiving end of unwanted "hero worship" and it's not fun, so I try to avoid doing it myself. I do find sometimes I will call someone "my friend" when I have not talked to them. I think though that is the nature of this place, everyone is so caring and supportive. Just my two cents worth. nothing wrong with "my friend". That can't be taken out of context, Dee. Signing "love" can't either..but "I Love You's" are a bit stronger..and I do believe that some persons forget that anyone who has internet in the world can see and read us on here...a lesson I learned...also that poetry can be written from non experiences or from those of long ago and everything written at the moment did not just occur...unless you know the person well or he/she mentions it..anyway..that was the reasoning for this posting..just wondering what one could do to prevent it from continuing..without hurting the feelings of the one doing it. thanks for your input Dee ~Wynter "The worst prison would be a closed heart". |
